About a year ago I was scammed on Paypal. It sucks and it happens everyday to innocent people.. I haven't used Paypal since then to accpet money. I sometimes pay small(under $10) bills, but other then that I don't use it.

Everyone who does work online accepts Paypal, some of us put 10 mins of work in and make $2 bucks, others put 6 months in and make $600. The thing that sucks is, whether it's $2 or $10000 a scam is a scam and it sucks.

Work with people you trust and have a good rep. You still have the chance of getting scammed but not as likely as someone who is known to be trustworthy.

It's not paypal that the problem, it's the guy who you did the work for. If you bought anything online and then told the credit card company that your card was used fraudulently, you would get your money back and the person selling or the merchant in the case of a shop would lose the goods. Do it a few times though and you can bet that you would be getting a knock at the door.

Yes, It does suck but if paypal closed the scammers would find another way to scam you.

That's actually quite a clever scheme. But yeah it's not paypal's fault as much as it is the scammers.

It's almost like American Law Suits. You know, a guy leaves a rake on the front lawn. The same guy steps on the rake and it flicks up and smashes his nose. The guy sues the manufacturer of the rake! :D

in consolation for the topic starter .. it seems he meant he was scammed on paypal .. didnt say he was scammed by paypal .. all that he's trying to say is that paypal should be doing something about this ( is that right ? )

Anyway i dont think that financial companies will just sit back and let the evil people do their stuff. If what the lady from paypal said something like what you said she said .. then perhaps she is right .. perhaps its not the job of the company to monitor transactions ( im not referring to the payment made, but the item you gave that requires him to give something in return ) that were not made thru them ... my two cents :)

How can paypal fix it so that the honest sellers are not hit with chargebacks on a stolen credit card?

Like any bank, if it is bad, stolen, etc...they will take it from you.
As in you accept a check, deposit into your bank account, and the check bounces.
Bank takes the money back out of your account.

Same with paypal, get paid fraudulently, they take the money back out of your account.

Now as far as people who love to purchase with a credit card then do a chargeback, again nothing paypal can do.

I get those once in a while, where the customer instead of going to paypal or me to do the chargeback, go straight to their credit card company.

Just a cost of doing business on the net, just like offline.

I've been using PayPal for a while online and have heard alot of horror stories especially from Internet Marketers. They do a big product launch and the money comes in so fast PayPal flags their account and closes it down, so their stuck, their 'big launch' is grounded and PayPal sits holding their money.

I have personally never had a problem, usually stick to smaller dollar amounts when selling.

It's pretty much like evrything else... good and bad. It's all 'people'. Sad as it is you just have to do your due diligence because it's tough to trust.
