Google officially announce that they have implemented site speed on their search engine algorithm. Currently, 1% of search queries are affected which means very few search engine rankings are affected. You can check the detailed post from the Google official blog here http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2010/04/using-site-speed-in-web-search-ranking.html. They have encourage the webmasters and SEOs to test this factor on their websites. So guys they might gonna increase the weight of this factor if it works out good with the search engine users.
Most of my pages are heavy on photos and information. Hopefully they make allowace by accomodating image properties for file sizes and focus on data transfer speed. Not simply start to finish time to load the page. Something like this could appear catastrophic to webmasters of Flash sites, when they first hear about it.
I think (logically!!!) site speed means page-size/time-to-load not only time-to-load without considering page-size. Google surely thought about those image rich websites or flash based.
Yeah I'm sure Google will have thought about heavy page sizes. I'm quite happy that they've implemented this because all of my sites seem to be pretty quick so all should go well.
Most sites load quickly now, the web in general is much faster.... people still screw up with image compression though, some folks seem to think that 5meg JPEGS have a place online ....
There are details in the google blog link in the first post, specifically; http://code.google.com/speed/page-speed/ http://developer.yahoo.com/yslow/ http://www.webpagetest.org/ And also in google webmaster tools -> labs -> site performance
They must have taken into account the size of page for sure.. or else u can think of the result... everybody will go for simple pages without much widgets and images.... yes they will give the link of images..
I am glad i went through and adjusted all my problems on certain sites. FYI I used a FF plugin called YSlow to help point out most of the issues.
This site speed implementation was undoubtedly necessary. I think it's a good move...keeping website speed fast loading for the user...not everyone has a fast internet speed...
I think this update will help in making faster websites as everyone want top rankings on reach engines
Many webmasters are mad about this decision, but I kinda like, because I have always made my blogs load under 4 seconds..so I think I won't have any problem
Its good decision taken by Google, atleast poeple will start removing useless gadget from website and visitor will start coming on fast, fresh and less complicated website.. I have too started working on increasing my page speed.
