OK, it's time for a little DP input on the LonelyGirl15 phenomenon. LonelyGirl15 is basically the most popular video series on YouTube, along with the current #1 search term on Technorati. For those of you who haven't heard of LonelyGirl15, here are a couple articles to bring you up to date:

    http://www.pbs.org/mediashift/2006/09/you_blog_here_contesthelp_solv.html
    http://nymag.com/arts/tv/features/19376/index.html
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lonelygirl15
    http://www.latimes.com/entertainmen...ry?coll=la-headlines-entnews&track=crosspromo

So, how effective do you guys think this is going to be in the long run? Although no one knows what it's for yet, this is obviously some form of viral marketing. I just wonder if it has become too popular to actually work effectively...

(feel free to add all your theories about LonelyGirl15 as well)

    this is a lonelyThread ;)

I think the LonelyGirl15 phenomenon is a glimpse of the future of internet broadcasting.

It would be alot more interesting if the person was actually involved in something more dramatic like living in a warzone etc

I think a lot of YouTubers feel duped,

but the real star of the show for me was the purple monkey.

My thoughts exactly. It surprised me that although everyone had basically figured out that LonelyGirl15 was a marketing gimic, there was such a backlash when "The Creators" announced that they were behind the production of LonelyGirl15.

This whole thing goes to show how truly gullible people are. I watched the videos after reading a couple marketing blogs which talked about LonelyGirl15, and within a few minutes it became obvious that this was a professional production. Although it was well written, there were too many holes (and mistakes) for it to be believed. However, I think this is an excellent promotional tool, and I will be interested to see how they handle the LonelyGirl15 situation from here...

Some people took the bad news too far.

Tyler why do I think you are the one behind it all?

I'm impressed that the creative team behind LonelyGirl15 has been able to keep the LonelyGirl15 saga going since May, and it's hitting the mainstream media now

I wish I was behind LonelyGirl15, but unfortunately I'm not. I can assure you that if I was behind LonelyGirl15, I would not have spilled the beans like "The Creators" did. However, this whole LonelyGirl15 situation has given me an idea for a great new project (don't worry, it's not any kind of copycat idea...LonelyGirl15 just made me realize how powerful Internet video is) ;)

That was my point. Even though people know it's fake, they are still into the LonelyGirl15 drama.

LonelyGirl15 is the perfect example of why the internet masses are so easy to exploit. If you don't believe me, take a look at the latest LonelyGirl15 video. Even though LonelyGirl15 is "grounded," the video is edited, although it was previously stated that only her friend knew how to edit. However, a quick glance at the comments shows her leigons of loyal LonelyGirl15 sheep that are willing to defend her to the end...

Hehe, Glad u liked it. Once revver gets full flash rather that QT, would prob make that into a MFR "Made for Revver" site.
