Generally I use Firefox for web surfing on Notebook or PC, but Opera 10.10 is is not bad either.
For a while we used IE6 with enhanced and tight security settings for our company transactions and recently migrated to IE7.
IE8 is still under extensive trials and testing on a one or two machines which are highly exposed to outer world.

I have some old pc's with ie6 and ie7. Newer one has ie8. I rarely use any of them, mostly firefox. Once in a while I fire the old pc's up and check sites I work on to see if they look decent in older browsers. But that is about all I do with them, and it is time consuming to fire up the old ones just to check so I don't do it very often. Ie 7 and ie8 seems about the same to me in speed and performance. Ie6 is extremely slow on some sites.

Now my computer has two search engines - fireforx and IE 7. Since the Firefox was installed, I did not use IE 7 anymore. I think google is good.

I still use IE 6 which is the default for WinXP, I didn't upgraded it to higher version.

I used majority all the time Firefox and occassionally, Chrome.

I do not think IE is good. You can give Firefox a try. Now it will release the Firefox 4.0.

Kinda can't help thinking that FF is starting to do a Netscape though - get bigger and bloatier. And not sure Chrome is yet a viable enough alternative (plus really don't feel comfortable about the direction that'd point me in - search engine (results) and search tool supplied by Google ...).

Starting with FF3.5 it's gotten smaller. Starting with v3.7, tabs will be in separate processes.
A better alternative? Search engine and search tool by Microsoft? lol.

My laptop is using IE6 and desktop is using IE7. I do not like both of them but too lazy to uninstall and got a newer version installed. :) So I did install Firefox / Opera / Chrome and use them as replacement instead. I almost never use IE again unless for some specific website that need only IE to open them.

This is good news. And a big step in the right direction - does this actually imply that a stuck tab can be quit without the whole browser crashing? That'd be a real innovation!

:) no, WAY! But ... Google is heading in leaps and bounds towards doing what many of us were unhappy about M$ doing - "owning" the access to information. They have sown up the search market, and the online advertising revenue that goes with it. No doubt they'll make great inroads with what is a very light and snappy browser. How much longer until Android is not only a dominant force in the handheld OS market, but the linux that linuxians wanted it to be - an os that's open and flexible enough to appeal to developers and companies, funky and cheap (free?) enough to appeal to mainstream users, and easy enough for idiots. Oh, and now they're rolling out ISP access!!! I don't like the direction they're headed, any more than I've liked where M$ has been since ... the 80s :) Monopolistic control control over something as significant as computing/internet (pseudo or real, even the imagined specter of it - I'm sounding like an old conspiracy theorist, I know, much to my disgust ...) is not something I feel comfortable with.

I use IE8 in my windows 7. But my favourite browsers are chrome and firefox. Chrome for browsing meanwhile Firefox for developing website. IE8 just for testing the CSS layout.
