How much is signature advertising worth? Are there any guidelines, for instance is it sold per 100 posts, or by the thousand? Obviously it will have a different value on different forums according to the audience, but is there anywhere we can go to compare the different rates, or is it all very hush-hush?

Another thing that has to come into play with sig advertising is the reputation of the poster. It can't look too good if your poster can't spell or makes lots of "me too" posts. I imagine it's quite difficult to quantify.

Costs totally vary from person to person. The very first factor is the number of posts, the more the better (normally 1000+ posts members are considered), 2nd is the reputation of the member, the more the better.:)
