I have heard a lot about article submission and also tried it for my website. But for me its not useful as compared to other off-page seo activities. Can anyone tell me if i'm wrong or not?
Comments and suggestions will be appreciated :)

Article marketing is very powerful if done correctly, but its just one method that you should be using along with others to promote your website, get visitors, backlinks and so on.

If you are having success with other methods then keep at it.... but you should always look at ways of improving what you are currently doing as well.

Go with article marketing for backlinks. Now it is very difficult to build back links as most of the stuff carries no follow tag- be it blog comments, forum signatures and even digg, mixx like social bookmarking sites. But in article directories you will get one or two do follow back links and if the artice syndicates may be more advantageous.

I dont find article submission effective either. it is just a form of diversification of backlinks. The bulk of my links come from forum discussion and blog commenting.

It is depend on how uniqueness the each article you submitted. I would recommend to submit one quality and unique article with one authoritative article directory such as Ezinearticles.com. This could be more effective way compared to just use one article to submit all kind of article directories. If you have to submit to common article directories, you may use one article for all of them, but the article must be unique and not duplicate with the one you submitted to authoritative article directory before.

Articles will rank for the topics they are written on by themselves if submitted to one of the top directories. If you have a good resource box, they not only help in regard to SEO, but send traffic.

SEO + Traffic, is there anything else you need?

IMO it's really only effective if you write GOOD articles. The articles need to have very good grammer and excellent content. If you do this and submit to well respected article submission sites like EzineArticles (the best IMO) and possibly GoArticles (the second best and only other one I use) then not only will your articles tend to get republished more (because they have FAR more republishers than other submission sites), but you will get quite a bit of click-thru traffic from the article submission site itself.

EzineArticles is seen as a pain to most SEOs who want to write a crappy 200 word article just to get a link. They have strict editorial guidelines and until you make platinum (most get it after 35 articles are approved, I got it free after 10 because they never had to edit my first 10 articles) it takes sometimes 2 wks to have one approved. But once you're platinum, they turn around submissions in about 2-3 days. So most SEOs go for the crappy, low quality submission sites that have few, if any, editorial guidelines.

I write long, detailed posts for my blog... typically 1500-2500 words. I then write a totally separate article about the exact same topic from scratch... usually about 700-1000 words to submit to EzineArticles. I never read the blog post while writing the article, but I use the same 4-5 bullet point outline so they cover the exact same topic.

Done right, article submission can work very well for rankings and traffic. Done wrong, it's generally a waste and your time could likely have been better spent blog commenting, submitting to directories, posting on forums, etc. to get links.

    Social-Media,

In large part I agree. I have actually had better results from Buzzle when compared with EZA of late both in terms of PR of the article and views/traffic.

Are you submitting to Buzzle? If so, have you had a similar experience?

As an aside, Platinum status on EZA makes life a lot easier in terms of turn around time.

I'm doing article marketing, so far most of the traffic came from EzineArticles but still there's no conversion. Maybe I'm not that good at writing of convincing the readers.

I'm now trying to outsource the writing and letting the experts do it. Let's see if there's difference between a professional article compared to mine :)

The key to article marketing, forum posting, blogging, social media, e-mail marketing, etc. is to provide good content that isn't just a bunch of self-serving fluff!

The value of the content you provide through any outlet -- online, offline, or in person -- is now, has always been, and will always be the number one determinant of success with education-based marketing. And that's exactly what you should be seeking to do with your articles and content -- educating the reader or consumer of that information. When you provide a reader some great, accurate, useful information, you begin to establish yourself as an expert. You begin to build credibility and gain the trust of your readers.

When you provide great content for free, the reader will immediately start to wonder what they could accomplish if they actually paid you for something -- for your "premium" content, a membership to your paid content site, a coaching session with you, etc. If you sound like you know what you're talking about, and you then recommend a product or service, the reader is more likely to actually investigate the product and buy it!

If you start with the mindset of actually endeavoring to help other people get what they want, you'll get more of what you want...

Gives you links from article directories, which we all know is valuable. If you have interesting and original content, people will read it and probably follow the link to your website. I say, it should be a part of an ongoing effort of promoting a website.

Article marketing is a VERY effective way to create backlinks AND drive traffic. However, it will depend on your niche. Not all niches will work well with article marketing.
