Meta description question

For my apartment rental website I have just been copying the description of each rental and entering it in the meta description. Is that ok, or would it be better to write a unique meta description? Also, do meta keywords do anything anymore? Here is my website: apartmentsRus.ca

I would write a unique meta description which includes the keywords that you want to rank for.........meta tags are important.

Meta keywords don't count for SEO anymore, in google at leat anyway, although they do tell search engines what your site is about.

Never use duplicate content and always write unique, if you have to use duplicate content nofollow the link to it or use rel=canonical or block them with robots.txt. This also counts for meta description, for the time it takes you might aswell write a new description.

It is better that if you can produce unique description meta tag according every web page of the website. It is better to include the keywords meta tags because yahoo and Bing search engine still have the importance for keywords meta tags.

You should always write a meta description and while you can copy the information on the page you shouldnt use more than 160 characters - a breif description for each apartment would probably be more suitable.

They keywords are somewhat devalued in google, but seeing as they aren't the only search engine you should spend some time to add something in them too; this isnt as important as using a good meta description however.

It's better that you should write unique meta description for your website and do keyword analysis and find appropriate keywords for your site because Google does not support meta keywords but other search engines like Yahoo and MSN support meta ketkeywords

For most of the time in google result display your tile & meta description & this is the text which user read and decide to click on ur site so combination of title & meta description should be perfect adcopy with ur keyword to provoke ur potential visitor to click on ur link.

If you want to capture as much traffic as possible rewrite your metadescriptions such that the keywords are near the beginning and the first sentence is the most provocative one you can create. Metadescriptions are often used by the search engines as the text of the search listing.

Should I put my keywords in the meta title or meta description? I don't have many important keywords so I would have to repeat them to use them in both. For now I'm putting the keywords in the meta title.

Yes, google said that meta tags doesn't count any more for SEO. It's the site's unique content that makes your site rank by Google.

    Hi, coldtek

In my own experiences, description meta tag is still an important place for SEO purpose. Using keyword rich, ad-like attractive contents for your description tags would be better and you need to keep it shorter than 160 characters, also. :)

    Have a nice day,

Google and Yahoo don't use meta keywords anymore.

IF you are just using a copy of what's already on the page in meta description, you might want to save the effort and avoid it completely. Google sometimes uses meta description for creating an excerpt on search results page. If the text is also present on the page elsewhere, it can take the text from there.

Yes, you should always try to use your keywords in meta description and title. Just make sure it looks naturally.
