I came in this morning to find this waiting in my in box: Funny thing how all of the other "no value" posts in that thread, as well as most of the other directory submission threads, seem to be just fine and dandy. Now I'm sure this post will be deleted as the moderation around here seems to be getting heavier handed. But let me just say, that a simple post like that does add value in my opinion, it adds value to the original submitter, so they have some feedback that members are going to, and adding sites to their directories. I don't give a rats ass about padding my post count. I've been around DP a long time and this kind of heavy handed, singled out punishment is really HS, plain and simple. (Oh yea, one more thing, I forgot to mention that I created this post just run up my post count)
Thx,submit or ... has no value - FAQ/Rules But I received an infraction at Digital Point Forums because I use the wrong Topic :Adsense, when I write about Google Analytics - and Adsense conversion raport
Hey Mopac, seems the rules have changed, because too many new members have been abusing this. I know, the good old days are gone ...
Yup, I agree to Blogmaster here, new members to just have their post count increased to get their signature/adsense etc enabled post such things. Its better to pm the user and inform him about your sites and to which category they were submitted. Or make the post big..eg.: Beautiful directory, submitted xyz to abc category. Waiting for fast approval. Rob I hope that type of looong post will not get an infr...
As a noob, I have been given an infraction for the same reason. It is often difficult as a noob to fully understand the etiquette of a forum and quite often what is seen by regular long time members of the site as 'bad form' on the part of the noob was never intended to be that. I can honestly say that my brief 'added mine - cheers, Hopper' posts were not meant as a way to drive my post count up (obviously it has this effect, but so does a longer thank you message). It was done because I saw others doing this and thought that this was this forums correct etiqutte re the posting of what are after all free links. I also like mopacfan saw it as a public vote of thanks to the directory provider and as a way to bring the directory back up the 'new posts' list and possibly encourage others to add their own links. With regards to PM's, my forum background is from three other forums where the number of PM's allowed are a great deal less than on DP inorder to conserve (rightly or wrongly) bandwidth and server space. It never occured to me to PM someone with a thank you reply because of this reason (yes I know I should RTFM!) Now that the reason for my infraction has been pointed out to me (re my sig links), I will of course stop these brief thank you posts however I must also point out that whilst reading the FAQ/Rules on posting, there is nothing that says brief thank you posts are not appreciated. It does say that the staffs decission is final on what is appropriate or not and as such I accept their decission. Hopper
I too recently received an infraction for "Running Up Post Count/Post Has No Value". And it was for the same reason I'm reading in this and other recent threads. That is, replying with a simple "Submitted one ... thanks". At first I was a bit miffed. Then, as I thought about it, I began to see things otherwise. Realistically, while it's nice to thank the directory owner, such posts add nothing to the forum and just consume forum space without really adding anything of value. Here's another thought that might help some. Perhaps some DPers add their "thanks" reply in order to get the arrow in the folder to the left of the thread title. Some may be using that as an easy way to remind themselves at a glance that they's already submitted to that directory. That is, when they see the arrow in the left margin folder, they know that they have already submitted to that directory and have added a "thanks" reply to get the arrow. Well, there's an even easier way that won't clutter up the post count with "thanks" replies. It's this — • Each time you submit to directories in the "Solicitations..." forum, don't use your back button to move to the next available directory in the list. Instead, go to the very top of the directory-submission post you've just completed, and click on the "Solicitations..." link there. • That will return you to the updated "Solicitations..." forum. But now (unlike if you used your "Back" button) the entry for the directory you just submitted to will now be in light green. That will show you at a glance just which directory posts you've already taken care of, because they will show in the "Solicitations..." listing as a light green link. • Even days later, if you come back to the "Solicitations..." forum to submit to more directories, the ones you've already submitted to are still in light green, so you can ignore them and work on the others you haven't submitted to. This is a real time saver, and at the same time it keeps the threads from becoming overpopulated with "thanks" replies.
Newsflash: This just in....new option made on vBulletin, version 1... What? What did Shawn say... Sorry, not gonna happen. Too easy to do.
I agree with the OP that infractions seem to be passed out with no particular purpose. Like in your case, you got one for "bogus post" (etc) but surely there are upwards of 1,000 of these types of post every day that don't get any punishment. Just my two cents.
I think rob he means to say that there are 1000 more similar posts that don't get any punishment. Now thats not true.. I am sure rob spreads a lot of infractions..
And how do you, he or anyone else except Mods/Admin know it?? Talking crap with the extra topping of rubbish...
Now when did I say that I agree to his that statement? Quoting only a single link from a couple of statement is "Just increasing crap talks with the extra topping of rubbish"
Don't think a lot that who needs what explanation. You thoughts are just increasing crap talks with a extra topping of rubbish.
I dont see any reason why you needed to quote him and i dont see any value in your post too lol, oh yea i just forgot your habit of Multi quoting without no real reason for that [Iam waiting for a quote of this post too]
