For my website should I submit it to all 100 of the top social bookmarking sites
For my 2.0 should I submit to all
or should I just pick the top 20 and be done?

Submit it to as many social bookmarking sites as possible. Submit some of your internal pages as well, not just the homepage. For best results try to rewrite the titles and descriptions from time to time when submitting - Google like original content and might not index duplicate submissions or submissions which look very similar. Don't submit hundreds of internal pages to Digg or they will ban your account and domain.

there are 1000s of bookmarking sites. submit to all the top ones and keep submitting the regular pligg and scuttle sites whenever you can. dont submit to too many sites at once and submit over time. use other link building methods also and dont just rely one one link building method

I am disagreeing with alot of the posts here, because I know the downside of what happens when you submit to thousands of social bookmarking sites.

Its as simple as this, the backlinks that you earn from social bookmarking are crap. Nothing more, nothing less. And as such, the benefit of using social bookmarking is to see your new content indexed.

For Google to see your site as being relevant, there is so much more than earning thousands of backlinks. Part of their algorithm is picking where links are coming from, and checking abnormalities. If you submit to 1000 social bokmarking sites, all I can say is that you really should be considering if you can build up 4 - 10k backlinks from other more reputable, and diverse sources. In a nutshell... by submitting thousands of submissions to only social bookmarking, yeah, it may get you noticed and will earn some traffic but your risk of being removed from the indexes is going to be very real.

Focus equally on article submisson, blog network submisson, blog directory submission, and especially blog commenting.

Yes, I agree with ZEXY, plus the best way in social bookmarking is peoples bookmarking your site/blog homepage or internal page with natural.

Don't ever bookmark your site's homepage on these social bookmarking sites, most of them see themselves as social news sites nowadays and will prefer to see a story / article being bookmarked.

Submit to as many social bookmarking sites as possible. You should use other techniques such as article marketing.

Social bookmark links are essentially low quality links - they can help boost anchor text searches for sites that are already high rank / trust.. so yeah def recommended for such sites

It's not enough to just submit your site to top or all social network sites. I would recommend you to social bookmark each and every new page/post you create on a regular basis. This will help you site improve rankings gradually.

Can anyone tell me what the benefit of submitting to Pligg or Scuttle sites is?

I have looked at a fair number of these sites and as far as I can see you dont get a dofollow link to your site and certainly not one with anchor text. All of these sites seem to prefix the lnk with their own site url.

As has been stated - it's about quality rather than quantity. And about diversity. Not just different domains, but different types of site. Click the link in my signature for lots and lots of different ways to get links back to your site.
