Because of their strict policy, the Chinese side get sharp reaction from most people. They firstly dismissed Google from their internet network and they are now having problems with other one of the biggest website “Yahoo”.

After China got access to 8 foreign journalists’ yahoo accounts in China and Taiwan and blocked their access to Yahoo, Yahoo condemned China.

It is believed that China don’t like Yahoo because they are supporting Google against China.

Let’s look at Yahoo in China in the coming days how this tension will be consequences.

Began with Google then Godaddy and Now Yahoo. :p Phew...This is look like an "Anti US Companies" from doing business in China. I do not want to give any negative comment toward them since this is their internal problem, plus it has no effect on my side. However, who would obey with their new rules? Only Chinese companies have to obey this rule whether they do wanted it or not, but no for most international companies. If this continue, none of big international company will survive until the last day.

I guess history does repeats itself. China pulled out of exploring the world even thought they had the most advance of ships, then again with the industrial revolution even thought they had the most smartest of minds. Now it's the internet when they clearly have the best programmers.

Lack of google and yahoo means less info and knowledge for them which could slow down a little their expanding economy.

Although one interesting fact being left out of this is how China is marketing these moves to it's own people. It's actually quite factual.

The Chinese government has been leaking various aspects of Google-US intelligence operations and in a op-ed on the state news agency was assuring it's Chinese that it was protecting it's citizens from the CIA by blocking google. In fact they are not far off the mark, as Google is basically a US intelligence front. Just search intellipedia, in-q-tel, and a variety of other operations in which they are involved (aside from supplying servers for the NSA, of course). Granted the Chinese are doing much the same to their own people regardless.

I don't know why people are so concerned with how china censors internet; its the business of the chinese and their government, not the outside world. Plus, most chinese users are hitting up proxies bypassing the great wall. Eventually censorship in china will stop no matter what the government does, and that's never going to be due to outside pressure.

They do censor the internet big time. I don't agree with it personally. Amen to the US.

This is sad for such a big country and a developing country who needs other countries' support, but they choose not to. China has to change her idea about something. Never let politics overwhelm freedom of getting fair info.

There is no freedom of press in China, they aren't bound to the same documents that the United States or other democracy countries are, China does what China wants, doesn't have to follow any "freedom of [insert clause here]".

Anyways, the only people that will be hurting (not terribly) will be US companies pulling out, as mentioned in here and previous threads Baidu is the largest search engine in China, and I'm sure they'll follow whatever China wants.

I think what it all boils down to is ... China is having problems with personal freedoms ... if they (the gov officials and state) can benefit from capitalism then it is not so much an issue. It is still an issue of control.

After banning Google, Yahoo and MSN, I suppose Chinese Government will develop a search engine for their people.
