I rank high for a very competive keyword in msn my site rank number 4 for the keyword cover letter. according to overture there are 72,933 searching this keyword.

Rank number 4 for the keyword sample cover letter but traffic is very low. This is a proof that there are not much use of msn search.

    Thats hardly proof.

I get alot of traffic from MSN, but i optimise for 100's of search phrases / keywords. If MSN indexed my whole site i'd be laughing.....Google out guns them in terms of visitors to my site at the moment but i suspect this is because they have more pages indexed.

    Overture results are'nt 100% accurate.

Just wondering, approximately how many visitors are you getting that's "very low" traffic from them?

The overture tool is not the most accurate tool. Use the Google Adwords Keyword Tool.

    Not hugely accurate either.
Why not use wordtracker - this could also help you optimise research more keywords that could bring you some more traffic.

Word Tracker has been of at times too. Best to use the digital point tool and compare with Google Adwords Tool.

I wouldn't be drawing any conclusions based on being ranked #4. Get to #1 then make some assumptions.

That sounds pretty reasonable to me bearing your only ranked 4.

It's reasonable because MSN does lack the traffic. The numbers actually make a lot of sense here. Considering MSN's marketshare + the spreadout of traffic between the top 10 results in each engine. So being #4 on the #3 engine that has much less marketshare then then #2 engine with 40/day uniques is great.

So do I. But, to me traffic is traffic and I will gladly take whatever msn sends me even if it is less than google. :)

I used to get 2k+ uniques a day from MSN ranking no.2 for a few different keywords. it all depends on the audience.

I agree with DCristo. See why your #4 and then try to one up your neighbors there. 73k isn't bad for a phrase, but if you're #1 or #2, you may do better. I agree that the gkw tool isn't that terrific.
