    Hi all,

First time here and found much useful info here.

I am thinking to host regular online contests with small entry fee. The winner will take portion of the cash pool. The contest involves contestants submitting their own work, and the online community members will vote for a winner.

Since it's skilled based, it's not based on luck. Will that be illegal?

Thanks very much for your opinions!

That doesn't sound like a bad idea--kind of like a cake baking or barbeque contest where theres an entry fee. That sounds like a real small niche...people have to pay to participate then HOPE they get chosen as a winner. The people that enter those barbeque contests can win thosuands of dollars, prestige, and theres a lot of pride at stake. What can you do online where there is that much pride and prestige at stake not to mention enough of a payout to make it worthwhile?

so, you want people to pay you AND give your site content in order to join a contest?

And im pretty sure its illegal (atleast in canada) since your charging to participate in a contest (theres a "no purchase necessary" law in canada for contests)
