Don't run before walking trying to get this business, OP says he is frustrated with his hosting company and wants to transfer. Most hosting companies give away domain names with the condition to keep them hosted.

As soon as someone tries to cancel the hosting service they take off the domain, which usually is not under one's control so it's impossible change nameservers or get the authorization code. Some hosting services however have TOS that gives you the chance to buy the domain for an additional price if you cancel, usually over $15 USD but that depends on the company. Most hosting services keep the domain if you cancel and let it expire overtime unless it's very good to keep it parked.

On a side note, perhaps the OP simply wants to change hosting service, in which case the solution is go to your registrar and change the nameservers to those of the chosen new company.

    1. Go to your hosting control panel. Backup all your files, backup all your databases.
    2. Save the backup copy in your PC
    3. buy new hosting, update your domain name nameservers ( I assume that you have not purchased the domain from the hosting company itself ) to point the new hosting service.
    4. Upload your files , upload database, configure your website's database once again. And your website will be online again.
If you have purchased the domain from the hosting service itself ( or get it free with hosting ) you have to change your domain registrar , it is a time taking process and domain transfer is not free, you will have to pay for one full year of domain price. If a lot of time is left in your current hosting period, you can temperorily set nameservers to point your new hosting as in step 3.

    Hope it helps.

    Regard
    Parul Sharma.

This is what he said so probably he can trasfer his domain name without problems, I think is ridicolous paid a company only for hosting
and don't have the property of that domain related to the hosting plan associated. This smell like a scam IMHO....

I know some company do it, but I think that is not this case.

PSHARMA said true you will need to buy the transfer option to the new company and an hosting plan related if you need it (maybe you don't want to use your latest hosting plan on previous hoster)

    1. Depending on what website /blog you are currently running, the first step is to back up your site.
    - Normal static site doesn't use database, so it's straightforward. Download your site file using FTP clients (eg FileZilla) to your local computer.
    - For website/blog powered by database, you will need to firstly backup the database. This can be done inside the Cpanel (phpMyAdmin). Select
the database and export it (download to your PC)

    2. Sign up for the new hosting account. The will let you know (in the Welcome email) the Nameserver to use to point your domain to their server.

    3. Login to your domain registrar (eg Godaddy/Namecheap) depending on where you register your domain, go to Name server section and update it. it looks something like ns1.server.com ns2.server.com. After Updated, it may takes few hours to days to completely propagated.

    4. Once the name server resolve, you should be able to login to your server. Use the FTP client and upload the file back to your server. For database site, import the database back.

    5. Done.. (if you need more info or have any question, you may PM me I will assist you. I do it on almost weekly basis for my client)
