First, how old your website right now??? If it is just new, that kind of fluctuation is just normal. But, if your website is a little bit old now, there is something went wrong with your link building. you might decrease you daily link building dose. (the amount of backlinks you gain daily to maintain your SERP.)

I told you your site has been penalized. Make sure you comply with Google in all your SEO work and how you structured your website, they are penalizing you for something

People keep saying its penalized or so easily. What I can see is that as your a counter site you will tend to get more and more backlinks from your users right? It possible that the number of backlinks increased heavily due to more users using your site. Google sees that pattern as alarming. I am sure that if your site continues the same pattern Google will notify it as a natural pattern. Take it a week or so and let us know what happens.
The 2nd possible answer is that all you other competitors were doing heavy SEO and passing you rank in a night's time though that is unlikely.

Anyway as a conclusion my advice would you to take it easy. I have a similar style of site (see my siggy sbox) and I experienced something like this before. Just ignore Google and check back after a week or two.
    Hope that helps :)

I have done on my personal analysis on your site. Here is my result. Since it has done from my personal experiences so it may not 100% correct but hope this help.

    1. Your site still has link popularity in Google via link: search operator, plus still have indexed pages. This domain may not have big penalized.

    2. Your site does has sitelinks when search for your domain in both with and without domain extension. It seems your site has an authoritative status somehow.

    3. Your site has PR 6, plus already has 1 years 9 months 2 days old. I do assume your site is not trapped in Sandbox things.

    4. Your site also has a link from DMOZ directory. This could the one involved for your sitelinks factor.

    5. However, your site has been trapped in a little penalized or Google filtering. This may because of the way you built links toward your site. Do you have build some huge spike of links recently?

hmmm, this is worrying if a PR 6 site can disappear like that. I have had this happen to 2-3 of my sites lately too, and the only difference has been an increase in link building. so maybe i'm building links too fast, and that is what has caused the penalty? my question is though, will the penalty ever get removed?

Same thing happened to one of my shopping site. There are chances of getting your site in sandbox if backlinks are growing suddenly. Everyone knows that sites like yours cannot have control on backlinks. But it takes min 2-3 weeks for google to understand this point. So dont worry, just give a small break for this site.
