hey all, I reciently started building a website and have been trying to build backlinks for it but have noticed that they are not showing up very fast. How long does it take for yahoo and google to pick up backlinks?
This depends on the crawl rate on the sites where the link appear: once the pages are (re-)indexed, the links will (hopefully) show up. The craw rate varies greatly from site to site and is (very roughly) proportional to the domain's PR. The Yahoo link list is the most complete (at least of all the free tools), while Google only gives a small sample with the link: operator and a larger sample in Webmaster Tools (but if you have links from few domains, nothing at all may show up in Google -- this does not mean that your links aren't counted.
It could take a while. It won't be until those sites are crawled again. If you want to get them counted a little faster, submit the sites with your back links to social bookmarking sites. get the stumbleupon, reddit and digg tool bars so you can do it faster. This may help to get them pages crawled and your links counted faster. Other wise you just have to sit back and wait. =)
It really depends on the link. The page it's located on and the PR of the page. Higher PR pages get crawled more frequently.
It can depend on what site or page your backlink is on. If it's a site that google don't crawl or visit too often then it might take time. There are sites that get crawled in a matter of minutes, others wonder why google hasn't crawled their site in a couple of weeks or a month even sometimes.
Normally they picks up the backlinks as soon as they crawl the page giving backlinks. Yahoo shows them all, but Google shows only dofollow quality backlinks in both link:domain and GWT.
Building backlinks is not a one-day task. You need to wait for a days to see the number of backlinks in your site.
