Even If you can not get resolution from Face Book just dispute the charges with the bank at which point the banks Fraud department will get involved and will settle it. Don't worry the banking system wants your money more than facebook they will get it figured out for you. Besides my guess is that facebook records IP address of transactions. Cheer up it will work out. Been down that same road myself

Maybe it's not Facebook, it is possible to select custom text to be shown on the Credit Card right?

I think the only way you can get billed like that is when you sign up to display ads on Facebook. Check your wife's account if there is Ads groups on the left menu. It was there when you sign up for advertising.

Hey all; I stumbled on this thread because this same thing has happened to a family member to the tune of nearly $4000.

My thinking is that someone hacked their CC/debit card # and has been playing on FB. I know the charges didn't originate with FB because this person has never entered that info.

I'm bookmarking this thread; I'm curious what the outcome will be. To the OP, please keep us updated on here and I'm happy to do the same.

We just discovered this today, so unfortunately there's nothing that can be done with the bank until Monday.

Do you happen to make some advertising using Facebook Ads? If so, the FB will know your CC number.
Try to contact FB team immediately.

If you were asking me, no. She has never used her CC on facebook. Ever. And they have not responded to voicemails & email inquiries yet.

To imh00052....sorry I don't mean to de-rail your thread and make it about my situation. I'm hoping we can eventually compare notes.

Regarding my situation: the charge on the bill stated:

    FACEBOOK.COM*ADS

    with the phone # 650-543-7818

I believe the OP's issue was a different subject after the *. (they had *CARD or *CREDIT)

After some research, I have learned that the *CREDIT is for games like Mafia Wars.

*ADS is definitely for advertising, and the amounts they are taking out are much bigger per transaction.

I fully believe FB wants to keep a good reputation, and I really don't believe they are malicious in our cases, but the fact that this can happen so easily without further verification of a cardholder's identity is a huge problem.

Let us know if you were able to get it sorted and how you got help so if anyone else experiences the same this thread can become a sort of reference and can WARN others to be more careful with information they store in their computers. Is it possible that someone else used the credit card? You know, there is a possibility it could be a member of the family, especially with the credit card used on Facebook for games JMO

i don't think so that facebook did it. Here is my story: Every day i got mail from that my password has been changed for safety. It has an attachments when ever i tried to download that Norton says it's a VIRUS.

The More interesting thing is that i don't have facebook a/c with that email id where i got those mail.

Now what do you say? Who are doing this?

For Your case you should contact Facebook but don't thing they can help you about this.

No word from that phone # but we are also thinking it's a scam and it's not someone purchasing facebook ads.

We are in the process of filing police/fraud reports and trying to get back the money that was stolen.

This is a huge mess. I would think that facebook would at least like to know, even if they aren't directly responsible. Seems like they could do more harm to those criminals than individuals could in court.

Still waiting on a resolution here....

That is crazy, surely your credit card company can see there is a fraud taking place here.

Did half you people even read? He said he has contacted the bank and the police.

I would not worry about it too much. Yes it's a hassle to resolve. But ANY bank and/or credit card company will make you whole and eat the loss. They simply write it off as a cost of doing business.

BTW... if the bank hasn't already already, I would highly suggest you cancel that credit card and never use it again. Get another. And as others have suggested, you definitely want to be subscribing to an internet protection package like McAffee or TrendMicro or Norton (and more importantly MAKE SURE YOU DOWNLOAD UPDATES FOR THE PACKAGE DAILY). Having a antivirus/antispyware package installed and running whose maintenance ran out a month ago or that never downloads updates is pretty much worthless.
