Can .co.cc be as effective as .com

I know domain factors in a lot in page rankings, so my question is will co.cc's when properly optimized rank as good as a .com with the same optimization? I have read about .info's not being as good because they relate to spam, but I have also heard of .info's ranking with no problems.

co.cc is only the subdomain. Of course it depends on Google, but there is no point to treat it the same as .com

I use a lot of .info's because they are cheap and I do a lot of experiments. They rank fine
based on the normal SEO factors.

I believe that Google does NOT discriminate or filter based on the TLD's. (except for some country specific filtering)

Domain name is ranking factor of course. But even domain name has 3 parts each of which is a ranking factor.

• The domain name ( www.Keyword1.com ) which is most important. So if Keyword1 is searched, or a phrase containing Keyword1 www.Keyword1.com will enjoy some nice priority in search results.
• The domain extention ( www.Wesitename.*** ) Now, No one actually search Com or Net in google. What the point is domain extensions has their own priorities.
• .Com > .Net > .Org > .Info > others
• the local country TLD will gain from benefit for local searches for example .co.uk when searched from England, will see some elevation.
• The subdomain (Keyword1.Websitename.com ) So subdomain has also got its priority, though lower than domain name. Thus if your Keyword1 is in subdomain, it will gain some benefits for the search Keyword1.
And after all, remember that, YourWebsite.co.cc is a subdomain.

co.cc is very difficult to rank and it is very rare that google index any co.cc domain as it is a subdomain. I have seen one of my friends site whose domain was on co.cc and was listed in google but later i don't know why google removed each and every single page of that site.

As for me, TLD has a factor in ranking in Google; specially if you are targeting a certain data center.

I have no idea why domain tld could come as a part of ranking factor in Google. Except for local tld such as .co.uk, co.jp which are building towards local search for certain country. I would say all common tld (com net biz org info) have the same weight in SEO perspective.

However, .com domain has one big advantage - People own assumption. These 2 advantages would come along

1. If they have heard the name of site, or passed through some site by a chance and remember only a name but not on tld, they would go and type for .com in the first place.

2. From above, if they want to link to the site then they would do the same - go to .com first.

For .co.cc I have a little experienced with it so I am not sure if it would be as good as .com. I do "assume" the .co.cc is not have the power as common tld (com net biz org info).

Oh ok. Thanks for the advice and help everyone, I appreciate it! I am newer to SEO, and co.cc's are free. I didn't want to invest a lot of money in .coms, or .nets if they weren't going to take off. Guess I still have some more learning to do.. ;)

Well, if you don't want to invest money, then I suggest you go for an experiment. As others have said that it is hard to rank .co.cc, but if you are looking forward to do SEO with .co.cc, then go for it mate, but remember, keep it only your experiment, not your project. Because you might wind up getting nothing in your hands..

All the best from my side mate, good luck.

Co.cc is useless compared to a Com. It is not even a top level domain, with the co in front. I stick with Com, Net, Org, and actually never go for .info, although I am sure dot info is fine. Try your search word volumes starting with only using the primary word, then look at the list of volumes that relate to what you do, pick the highest that fit and still have keyword volume with the combination of words. That will get you somewhere, if you stick with a primary TLD like above mentioned. The others are not really justifying the time and investment, and resulting value.

Sometimes picking a smaller volume string with a two word combination that fits with your products or topics are more successful in a relative way with domain name words. Domain name keyword help for SEO is what we are discussing here. I have MountainScenery as my domain name keywords on this particular site example, thus the domain names I could register were TLD, Top Level Domain, dot net and dot org of these combination of keywords. I would have liked to have Scenery dot com, net. or org, but maybe with your money, not mine! I just went down the list on "scenery", and the two words combined, mountain and scenery together happened to be high and available in net and org, so I logically took both. This is a new site example at the time of this posting. Bargains can be searched around with some flexibility and can be had right now. I suggest build the domain names that you buy, as no undeveloped name has much blue sky attached in this current time and economy, except maybe one word domains. Lots of names are being dropped because of the economy, and not that many domain resellers make a living at this. Most of us collect a little Google money to afford to keep any names at all.

Personally I'd trust a .info a lot less than most other TLDs mainly because of how cheap they are/were. At one point they were giving them away, weren't they?

My thinking, what would you like to fix up, a Porsche or Volkswagen? If the VW is 5 bucks, and the Porsche is 9, the bragging and recognition of that Porsche will be quite a bit more valuable over time, even if you like bugs. The difference in appreciation can be thousands! I have some really nice and income earning dot coms. I also will not hesitate to invest in time and space in the server and build up a dot net. I think both are very nice, once traffic is realized, and you look real to your customers with a major TLD, that helps the website and name too. A great seo domain name with a clean dot com or net, it kisses you back...
