Hey, i want to put one of those things at the bottom of my website which shows just the amount of people on the website currently, the most ever online, and total online last 24 hours/yesterday) if possible. Can anyone advise a good website or tracker? Thanks
I would not recommending using them. I had a widget installed on my blog but it started displaying ads. Most of the free service will show pop-up ads. I can't recall the name of the widget but it was in flash and had flags for visitor counter.
Check this one.. http://www.roscripts.com/How_many_visitors_online_PHP_script-108.html Or, try a Google Search http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...avclient-ff&rlz=1B3GGGL_enIN357IN357&ie=UTF-8
thanks for sharing. I was typing widget in google search. The script from freeuseronline[dat]com is awesome. Thanks for sharing..
alright thanks everyone. Will try out some of those, im not looking for fake online now visitors btw.
Personally i would not worry about it unless as mentioned above you are using a forum. As for: whos.amung.us <-- they have been loading 3rd party scripts which are getting blocked by Kaspersky, and ive also noticed this places extra strain on loading times etc etc... you don't want to lose traffic due to a silly little script saying how many people are online... this is technology that is 10 years old, i would not worry about it... if you really want it, i suggest you make up several images "101 users online" "88 users online" etc etc.. and use an random image rotating script this will give the effect of lots of people on your site. Good luck
Unless you're running a large community site I wouldn't bother. However, if you really want to incorporate stuff like that I would recommend moving to a Joomla open source cms. There's free modules for what you want with Joomla, on the other hand if you're running a forum like this you can incorporate the Kunena forum component into Joomla and the whos online stuff is already built into it. I'm sure Drupal has similar stuff if you're turned off by Joomla for some reason. Once you start building sites using a cms like Joomla or Drupal you'll never look back, there are just so many really cool dynamic things you can do with them that you cant do with straight html or cookie cutter wordpress blogs and the like. Asp is fine but it's too closed up for my taste.
Im not sure why people still put counters/users online tools on their site, IMO is makes your site look unprofessional.
What third party scripts? I have been using whos.amung.us for close to 2 years on a few sites and have had the pro version on one site for nearly a year. I have never had anything blocked by any program. So if you could "elaborate" on this I will pass it on to whos.amung.us and see what they have to say. As for stopping your site from loading... Again, I've never had any problems with the widget stopping my site from loading or slowing it down. All it does is load an image that's about 1k, if their site is down, the image won't load. I agree (forums are OK), on most of my sites (but not all) I change the width and height of the widget to 1 pixel by 1 pixel so its invisible, I also remove the href from the code so there is no link to the whos.amung.us stats page. I use the whos.amung.us firefox add-on so I can monitor up to 5 sites without needing to visit them. Cheers
I disagree with you. In peak hours my website show from 100 to 400 people online which leaves a good impression on new visitors.
Do you actually get decent traffic with a number of visitors online or visiting at the same time? Just wondering because if you only have a small number online at a time, if any at all it would be kind of useless in a way. Why waste page space and size, or load up another script for a widget of some kind that is just going to say you have x-visitors online. To each their own, but maybe you could come up with something to really attract visitors and members attention. Put something new or exciting there. But whatever works for you. Good luck with it.
Well whos.among.us tracks not only the number of users online but also shows us which post or page where most of our users are. This allows us to improve that point and whos, among.us helps us in understanding our users more.
Here's a look at the whos.amung.us maps you get with the pro version
