How to move hosting?

I've been using free hosting for my website, and it is really unstable. I have a lot of files, I mean really. So what is the best way to transfer my files over to a next host? Login via FTP and just download all my files then reupload them on the new host?

Most providers will migrate your files over free of charge. You'll just have to update the DNS at the registrar and wait for them to populate globally.

That's neat. Well, I use WordPress and MyBB, will they edit those their selves, or will I have too?

I think all the host just move all your files to the new home but without any changes.

Most of hosting company will surely glad to help you migrate site to them, regardless to amounf of files. It won't be a problem.

However, if you want to do it yourself for privacy reason then here is my advice.

    1. If your free host using cPanel (almost not possible) then it would be very easy. cPanel does offer a zip feature which could help you much easier to transfer the large number of files. If not and your panel do not have a zip feature then you have to download maually via FTP instead.

    2. Backup mysql (or whatever) database. Export them as sql file (if your DB is mysql).

    3. Do not forget to check compatibility across the host. In case you are using Apache + PHP + Mysql, you need to check if the version on those 2 are similar or almost. This could avoid compatbility issue later.

Step 1. Find a good web host and sign up for an account.

Step 2: Make a back-up of your site at the new webhost.

Step 3: Change DNS to point to your new web host.

Step 4: Wait for the DNS change to propagate through the net.

Step 5: Once you are sure people or Googlebots are fetching from the new webhost/IP address, you’re done. You can shut down the old site.

If you are using Cpanel, contact your new hosting provider(with your current password and username to login cpanel)
They will move your account to new server(via WHM). It is really easy and fast.
If you need help, please send me a pm :)

Any paid web host can transfer your sites(s) for you in just minutes/hours (depending size of data) and all for FREE too.

Just drop them an e-mail or submit a support ticket and they'll get it done for you. :)

I do not know about what free hosting you are using, but if it support online zipping and unzipping, it will be easier to zip all files into single one or small files, and then download them. Maybe your host be providing backups then also you can zip and download all the files.

Its just a three step process...

1# download all files to your pc via ftp.
2# Go to your phpmyadmin and export all database tables which in sql format.
3# upload all files to new server & create new database import your exported sql file into your new database.

Last thing you have to change some details in your script to change all database details to your new database details.

    For ex:
Wordpress has a config.php file which contains database details ,just you have to change those details to your new database details.
    Hope this is useful.
