Do you think linking out to authority websites within your niche can aid your SEO and rankings ? I tend to never link out to any other websites to keep all strength within the website. What are your views guys ? Thanks Tom
It is still a myth for this theory. However, I think it does make sense to give some outbound linking to the site that authorized for content topic on your site. As Google see the link you referred does give your reader a benefits instead of send them to some garbage site. For example - If content in one page of your site has a title related to "Social Bookmark" and you do linked out to digg.com (with nofollow may be) then it does make sense, isn't?
Thanks Sxperm. So your saying that it could be beneficial to the user to link to related content. But would this harm page strength due to the outbound link ?
In most cases... Poor sites link to better sites. Better sites rarely link to worse sites. It's just a natural thing.
From all the knowledge I've aquired whilst learning about SEO, I think that a few outbound links are probably beneficial, but make sure that you don't have too may outbound links on a page. In an article you could have upto about 15 and not get penalized, but anything over 20 will probably be detrimental to your site.
if you put no follow even more than 20 outbounds does not have a significant effect on your site SEO strength.
Pass on the link juice only to the sites which deserves it and not to everything that you link in your blog !
Its all depend on the PR of the external websites from whom you are getting backlinks for your website. Try to get backlinks from relevant websites to improve the visibility of the site on main search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing.com
Yes definitely it depends on the page rank of the external website. High PR relevant website back links with your focused keywords anchor link improve your website's position and Page Rank as well.
Why do you care about PR??? You link out to other websites to improve your visitors' experience... just check EZine, Financial Times, and other big sites have many outbound links to make sure their visitors get all the information. Did you build your website for PR or your visitors???
