On page optimization is the core of overall SEO strategy. It is where you can define and effectively use keywords of your website. Without on page SEO, there is no effect on ranking. But with only on page SEO, your site will improve its ranking itself. I've a personal experience of this one where I confronted with a site with no content and on site SEO; and the site has reasonable amount of backlinks, but still, it is no where near top 500 ranking in Google. I suggest your primary focus should be on page optimization/SEO.
Off Page Seo is not Enough first your on pages work is got after that start on pages so not only off pages but on pages is the main part of SEO
First you will update your meta tags like: title, keywords and description after that you will start doing Submission work: Forum posting, Blog comment posting, Social Bookmarking, Directory submission and Link Building.
thanks all for all your wonderful advices... i have started off page optimizing and as soon as i get the control of the site i will start on page seo also.. as my site will a static one as its a biz site and i cant update much i guess on page seo is more important for it.
To be an Good SEO first you should score in your On-page Optimization. Then after that continue with your off-page. Analyze your competitoner and do a good On-page optimization.
As so many have said here- building a linkwheel and other off page techniques will be a good way to proceed. But don't forget to change out your keywords and add some fresh content to the pages periodically. Google likes this.
I think Off Page Optimization is of greater importance than On Page Optimization. But only Off Page Optimization can not make a site rank high on search engines. For this,On Page Optimization is also required. So, according to me, you should properly start working on your site when you have complete control of it.
You should do also on page , only off page can take more time and then you need more links so try also on page.

Yeah Sure It will Do , but do decide ur Meta tags and keyword and description well in advance as this would reflect later on your site...
dont put all efforts on ur site for google, also there will be effort for user who is visiting ur site.

Initially you need to work out on the onpage optimization of your site and after that you go for the offpage. In offpage you can start the work by doing the link building, articles posting etc..
