some great information for newbies and hopefully will really pay attention to the part about trying to attract targeted traffic instead of just raw numbers.
it's funny all all I hear all day long from bricks and mortar business is more traffic more traffic.

For some reason, they completely forget about targeted traffic and conversion rates being pretty damn important.
As an example, a recent customer of mine who sells a very specific product in the decking industry was convinced that we should perform SEO to get him to rank number one on the first page of Google for "decks".
It took some time to get him to understand at first, to try and even rank for such generic phrase would cost him a ton of money, and second, conversion rates would simply not be worth it. he finally understood the long tail key phrases specific to his product would be profitable and easier to get rankings for.

I grew up in Ottawa, love the city am now in Toronto.

Something like deck you are right it would be a waste of your time and clients money to go for that, you need to aim a little specific.

I am personally a fan for going for both the big keyword and the regular keyword specific, this of course assumes it is not city based (it is completely online)

    Cheers,

    Hey Mukul?

    I have a question for you :)

I am working to increase the audience for a video series I am doing, but it is not aimed at selling a product. I am simply trying to get my name out there and entertain people rather than sell them anything. I am an artist and my series (Golden Elevator, the link is in my sig) is something of a 'reality show' about making it to the top as an artist. I am not attempting to sell my paintings, books or poems through the videos, just to give people a good time & show them what it is like to trying to build my own 'celebrity' so to speak.

Would you have any advice for how to promote videos that are not targeted so much to a specific niche beyond being a mixture of art/entertainment? I don't work within a specific genre so there isn't really anything specific to target tho I make *a lot* of pop music and pop culture references so I have used those in tags for the video, uploaded the video to several sharing sites, etc.

Any opinions or insights you (or others here) might have will definitely be taken into account!

    Thank you :)

PS - Great thread so far!

You need to find an angle that is interesting and that people will blog about. On my Internet Marketing Crunch, I did a interview with an expert on Facebook marketing and other blogs started posting the video. I do a lot of videos and they get good response, but blogs liked this one for some reason. Unless you can master knowing the hit videos from the nots (which is a great talent), like I personally do and I think most others do, it is hit and miss.

Make the video, then release it on Press Release websites.

    Cheers,
    Mukul
