Hey y'all. I'm Ava...or waxingpoetic here on DP and most places about the net. When I assumed this moniker more than 10 years ago online, I never took it for being ambiguous in any way, but I guess it is. With the webmastering world being predominated by men, many times in posts about the forums, other users just assume that I'm a man and address me accordingly. It doesn't really bother me per se because I could myself doing the same thing. It just strikes me as odd, I guess, sometimes especially when it happens numerous times in quick succession. I used to balk at it and be like...I'm not a dude! Now, I just kind of smile to myself and carry on. I got the inclination to make a thread about it today though and thought it might be a nice chance to make some friends with other female DP members and even "dudes" if they dare venture in. Talk to me, DP.
Its a mindset plus its tough to figure out whether a person is male or female unless they add their photo in avatar or write their name in signature or even "hey i am a guy and get pissed being addressed as a guy" lol... If nothing is mentioned everyone just presumes its a guy so i guess you people could try one of those methods to avoid it
Welcome DP lady!!! Thanks for revealing your identity! Most of the DP ladies want to pretend as a man to avoid scam messages. I appreciate your boldness and Truth.
That is definately true. I know of one that has a lady avatar. They post quite a bit but slipped up in one post that the person posting is definately a male.
It's a fact that the majority of internet marketers smoke alot of pot... Thats the best explanation I could have for this dude bro phenenomon.
I'm guilty of this..I seems to call people i deal with bro with UNLESS i feel their username can be something that give me little hints that it could be a woman just like "kittyluver"..Sorry kittyluver but had to use this as an example..I'm a big kitty lover too so this is not always the case.. BTW: We went through Winston Salem on hwy 40 yesterday on the way to visit moms and the rest of my family at church..
Hahah I'm also a lady, but I'm not actually offended when people call me a "dude", "man", "bro", "sir"... I kinda like it lol. I just talk that way also. I call everybody "dude" even if it's a girl in real life. Oh, and the previous posters are totally right, if a person has a sexy photo of a lady, he's probably a guy. ( not necessarily )
it happens with me too.. people call me dude, sir etc; ... i don't mind it but ya smile on it.. no lady here on dp should mind it 'coz otyher person have no idea about your identity..
Cool, cool. You live somewhere in NC, right? I remember you from another thread. Hope you had smooth travels and a nice visit! Ha! Me too! Pleased to make your acquaintance, dude.
Yes!! I use to live in Chapel Hill (grew up there) but i moved to the mountains.. Been in the mountains for almost ten years now and loving it!! Now I live in a small town 20 minutes north of Asheville called Mars Hill..Been here over a year...
Oh there was a book I read in high school that mentioned a character from Mars Hill. But it must have been Mars Hill, Maine cause the book was set in New Brunswick, Canada.
I call both males and females "bro" in real life as well as on forums. and I often hear "I'm not a dude!" but i find bro to be the perfect word to use in all cases when talking to people.
