Is control panel necessary for VPS?

Hi I am trying to get a VPS but the Cpanel is quite costly for my budget. Is Cpanel really necessary? Does a VPS has a default control panel. I am looking for just a simple panel. Thanks.

You do not need a control panel, however, if you plan on reselling from that VPS, it would be wise to use one, as it automates many of the tasks needed. There are some free ones out that as well that you could use as well. You can also get a cPanel VPS license for $14 US per month, I don't think that would blow your budget.

Hi but what is a VPS without any panel like? Any demo? Also how do I start installing my own cpanel? I usually just configure my server for 3 days and never change it again.

A VPS without a control panel means that any changes that need to made must be done via command line, or, if you have a visual desktop, through a vnc terminal. cPanel is fairly easy to install, however, it must be installed on a fresh system, that does not have any accounts or so forth on, as it will overwrite existing data. If you are planning on adding more than one site to this VPS, then I would look into a control panel. If you are only using it for one site, then it may be worth while just using a terminal to configure things, or, use a free control panel, such as Webmin with the Virtualmin module.

There are other free alternatives such as Webmin and Kloxo. Obviously not as great as cPanel but has all the same functions.

That is up to you and to the purpose of using VPS. In any way using control panel will make server managment easy for you.

This totally depends what you are using your VPS for. If you are hosting clients, you will want to give them a control panel, you probably want cPanel or similar if you are not used to managing a server yourself - or you want a server that is managed for you.

its not important, but yes, you need control panel to manage your vps easily.
yes, its doesn't matter what control panel you gonna use it, vista panel or direct admin for control panel tool.
it would be easy for you to manage it.

Its upto you and your pocket. So, I recommend you to buy VPS with cpanel. Because cpanel is user friendly panel.

Unless you know how to do everything using command line in linux, I suggest getting a control plan. I also suggest getting cPanel as your control panel. =D

Even if you do know everything about linux commands and can do that control panel makes your managment easier and faster. That is what it was created for. So why don't use that?

Some people can't afford the extra $35 for dedicated or $15 for vps.

DirectAdmin is usually cheaper and there's free ones such as Kloxo & Webmin.
