What's the best? niche or sub-niches?

I am going to make a website in a well defined niche, this niche has more sub-niches, so what do you think would be better to do? making a website in that niche or make more websites in every single sub-niche of the niche and link them together?

For example, say we want to make a website about golf, but golf is a little bit too general so it won't be easy to rank well in search engines. So talking about golf someone might be interested in golf eqiupment, golf lessons, golf clubs, golf competitions, golf celebrities and so on. So i think it's better to make a website for each of these subjects, what do you think?

I say definitely go with one site. Make it a killer, authority site. Making one such site and keeping it alive is much easier. Interlinking microsites is a tactic that doesn't work: Google specifically opposes it and is now very good at detecting it, so you probably won't get very far in that direction.

If you can write a few hundred articles about the sub-niches, then go for the sub-niches. The problem with too narrow a niche is that you run out of writing ideas soon.

If you can write a few hundred articles about the sub-niches, still go with one site.

Depends on how much traffic and how strong the competition is

for a newbie and who does not have a lots of cash to spend on SEO,it is better to go for the long tails. While for the more experienced and those who are ready to spend money,it is better to go for the main keyword.Once the domain achieves authority for the keyword GOLF,the other keywords can be targeted easily or at least would be able to come up on first page for all of them.

Yea that's what i intend to do, i want to rank for long keywords and will make a single website and include all the subjects in it, and i think it would be impossible even for an SEO expert to overcome all of the websites in top3 for the keyword golf in a short time and I want quick results .. like 3-4 months.
