hmmmm Rapidshare like service required dedicated server. Where your user can upload unlimited files etc. I recommend you to read reviews about hosting companies and then finalized where from you want to buy hosting.

if all your hosting is a rapidshare search engine then i doubt any hosts would suspend your account, unless you exceeded traffic limits, or the script itself used too much resources.
However if your hosting files copied off rapidshare on your account i can understand why your account would be suspended.

you need a hosting with a great resource. crawler took a lot of resource.
    what about hostmonster ?
but maybe you should read the tos first, and ask it before you buy.
i think its not a problem if you just use a custum search from rapidshare link has indexed by google.

Hosts would be extremly unlikely to ban ou for a search engine, if your not planning on running a file sharing site, then your not doing anything wrong. But you might need a host that offers high bandwidth if your site beocmes big

For a crawleer, you will need a dedicated server for sure. No one will host you on shared or VPS. A dedicated server can be easily bought at a price of $50/mth. Good luck finding one.

What type of search engine were you running? Seems strange that you would get banned for it, unless you were using some sort of script that was a resource hog.

I use godaddy to host several search engines (and sites) on one shared hosting account, which includes a rapidshare search engine, but all mine are Google CSE's.
Using a CSE means you don't use any resources for crawling and indexing, you just the bandwidth. I have the deluxe shared hosting... that only cost about $6 a month, but the search site is starting to get a bit too busy for the account (Gets around 400k visits and does around 2.5 million queries a month). I've already got a virtual dedicated server for it, but just haven't set it up yet.

So if your just starting out and plan on using a CSE, with plain static html, then shared hosting should be fine.

    Cheers
    James

Even a dedicated server would suspend your account. Save yourself the heartache and get offshore blackhat hosting.
