I've found forum posting to be one of the best ways to rank for long tail keywords in the short term, but you have to follow it up with other link building strategies, even if they're low value like throwing in a few blog comments, or writing some web 2.0 content pages with a link. Thanks for the tip about the signature exchange though... I hadn't come across it before.
It depends on how popular that particular thread is with search engines and what targetted traffic is coming though. You can get lucky with forum signs.
yes, it really works if the competition is low, but you can not expect same result for a high competitive keywords.
I am puzzled about jumping up 20 positions. I though Page rank could only be between 0 and 10. Do you mean SERP? I didn't know links helped with that, too!!
I also have seen a jump in ranking! I have been posting on this site for 2 years and my sites has done well, so keep posting
Will someone tell me how to do this signature link exchange and who are the people to approach for this kind of strategy. Please.
I has sold my sig at one point for several months, the three links each had the #1 position in SERP on google, and kept it till a few months after the guy stopped paying. So yeah, sigs certainly work, and the keywords that were in my sig had NOTHING to do with SEO or webmastering at all... but I am willing to bet that not many HUMANS clicked through my sig.... but I can tell you that I have had SEVERAL human clicks when I have had webmaster related links... so relevancy has to count for something. I've talked about these things in the past but only recently got them up... check them out. 20 Steps to Forum Link-Building Signature Link Buying Guide
Nah... I much comfortable in gaining links via link wheel methods; it is much better than link exchange because you have 100% control over it.
Hmm i think it might have been just a google dance, i havent really noticed forum sigs of doing anything much for me... except for a short boost =\
A thread which can stay on top on forums.... how do you decide ? But i do believe sig links are very good interms of SEO...
