How to count the backlinks?

For example, if I put two posts in a forum/blog and in each post I put my website . So I have two backlinks or just one?? Thanks.

Another question: I use http://ekstreme.com/backlink-analyzer/ to check my backlinks, but i found that everytime after i refresh the page, the number of backlinks changes.

Anyone can give me a better backlink-analyzer? Thanks!!!

    1. www.seo-forensics.com is good site to check a detailed list of backlinks
    2. Every single post in a forum / blog will be considered as a separate backlink

Isn't yahoo backlinks enough? Its impossible that SEO tools have their own web index, where do they get their info from?

You can do it directly like pasting ==> link:http://www.(Your website).com/ in google...
Else you can check the free tools...like back link checker in http://www.webconfs.com/backlink-summary.php ...It is a free tool...You can try this too...
Better you search in google directly...Else use the tools for analysis..

come on, I don't need ads, I need info on where do these guys get links from, its impossible they have database like yahoo or google has. So they must be utilizing e.g. yahoo backlinks or something like that. Also, I've been using Altavista backlinks, and it provided more unique web sites than a few of the specialized seo sites do. Yes seo tools apparently provide more links, but when you just count the unique web sites (ive created a simple perl script to count this), not every single link on every single site, altavista.com is way better.

just wonder, i have seen a lot of people with different method of checking backlink using google. Some use link:domain.com, linkdomain:domain.com, link://domain.com etc.
Can anyone please enlighten me which is the correct method as all of them give different results :)

iwebtool has a nice backlink checker. I usually use that. what did you do when linkbuilding? I mostly focused on submitting my site to sites like easysubmits.com and posting articles.

If a search engine finds twice (or more times) the same links in the same page, it will count only one backlink.
If the links have different anchor texts, google keeps only the firt one.

As for checking the amount of backlinks, simply use:
    - your google webmaster account as for your own site.
    - and yahoo explorer as for other sites.

Other tools, as stated above, may help you too. But, in most cases, they use yahoo explorer figures.

Keep in mind that forum/blog should be dofollow. (nofollow links may bring traffic, but no PR juice).

Link quality is much more important than link quantity as for SEO.
