I have been using submitexpress.com to measure incoming links to my website. It shows that i have incoming links recognised in yahoo, msn etc but none in google.

Why is this? And how do i change it?

Google will always show a lower number of backlinks and only count the quality backlinks.

The only thing you can do is keep building your backlinks but aim for getting more quality ones rather than quantity.

    Hi!
I have learned from experience and from other people that Google is very mean and slow when it comes to showing up backlinks... This is why it is difficult to analyse your competitors' linking strategies - maybe this is the reason why Google is so mean.

I use Alexa toolbar to analyse my competitors' backlinks and I use MSN search box to see how many new backlinks are already showing up.

So we cannot change Google's way of beeing mean to us and not showing up our links - we have to simply accept it...

I hope this info will help you to little...

    Hi,

There are currently sites dominating the GOOGLE serps that have zero IBL according to G, and 0 PR.

Yet, searching in MSN/Yahoo reveals their true link count.

    What does this mean ?

Google definately counts most of these links, what they show you is another story :)

Yes it's true that Google shows less back links than other major SE's. And more thing it's not necessary that links shown in Google are the best ones.

Build more and more links brother. DO some Directory submissions, Article submissions and Link Building. :)
    Good luck :)

Yeah - I have the same problem. I have hundreds in Yahoo, MSN & such, but only '3' in google, 2 of which have nothing to do with my website!

    I hate Google. *grumble*

Same with my site.. google shows 3 while msn shows 22 and yahoo shows 122
. But if I search, all three are giving results in hundreds.. So stopped looking at the "LINK count" from these sites...

Google does recognize these inbound links and you can see this because when you check links on osswr.com it has 0 inbound links in google but a PR 3. googles new algorythm puts more emphasis on inbound links.

The people checking backlinks are webmasters and seo's so of course google doesnt want to show us everything because they dont want to help us do our job. They want it to be more natural.

It is important to stay on top of your seo efforts so I would recomend using our tools located at:

Don't feel bad, I have 2000 Yahoo links, 28 in MSN, and 0 in google, and a PR1.

Google's kicking my butt too :(

    Same case here too.

Hundreds of backlinks shown in Yahoo and MSN but no BL in Google.
Also PR is 0 and expected to be 4.

I've been running an ISP for as long as the Internet has existed.

One of the things I've learned about google's link counting is that it is SLOW. My domains which have existed for many years are reasonably well represented by Google, but not so for the newer domains.

I have found the same is true of images, only those that have been around for years and have good alt tags, show up in their image search.

This may be just because the web is so big and only so much crawler resources are available, but it also may be that Google does this intentionally to minimize dead links by only listing content that has shown long-term stability.

One thing that is kind of frustrating, participating in Googles sitemap program has actually hurt my ranking.:(

Thank you so much for your interesting answers... I have learned to focus more on what I am doing in my business... for example improving the content of my site, clarifying what it is about etc.

For the last 5 weeks I have learned that LinkExplore software which is supposed to automate the process of acquiring backlinks, works only for websites with PR3 and higher... simply because people don't bother to answer to somebody whos PR is 0... so I cancelled that and got my money back

Then I tried a company called Cyber Link Pro - a linking company that provides 1000 links for $48 per month...over period of 3 months... I discovered that all the backlinks were PR0 - so that wouldn't help. So I cancelled that too...

Now I am about to try very recommended linkmetro.com and hope it'll work.

I have to finish my product, improve my site, write articles etc. so I cannot afford to waist 5 hours a day to try to get some people to exchange links with me...

So I am not Google PR obsessed any more. I hope the day I get more traffic to my site I will be able to convert them to my customers. That is what I focus on now...

Thanks for your advice and interesting comments!

Yeah, I'm another in the group here with very few google links, but a number of yahoo links... not too much you can do... but I think that if you can get by with the starting traffic from the other engines and less competative keyword combinations, then the rest will come through...

Another point here is that you could be in the google sandbox for a little... although, I don't know how that effects them showing/not backlinks.

You want to submit your site to those directories who are indexed in google.

I think these link farms are mostly worthless. Google doesn't just look at raw link count, they look at the relevancy of the links, and they do this in large part by comparing the content of the link text with the content of your page. If there isn't a close match, the link doesn't count. Too many irrelevant links may even lower your ranking.

The old addage, "content is king" applies. If your website has interesting content, people will link to it because it is interesting, and those links will be high quality relevant links that Google looks for.

A gazillion links don't help if they are irrelevant, from low ranking sites themselves, or the content isn't present on your site. Your focus should be on content and you should think in terms of what is genuinely useful for your intended audience because that is what Google is focusing on.
