US Internet giant Google will close its business in China next month and may announce its plans in the coming days, Chinese media reported on Friday, after rows over censorship and hacking.

Come on, you can't deny Google will be losing a huge amount of money too.
    >> But Google still have plenty or other countries to invest in!
Yeah, and the people of China still have several options for SE.

This is really a sad news. Both the parties were adamant and neither was willing to compromise!
Chinese government on its part was trying to show off its capability in regulating even a medium like Internet... while Google rightfully stood its ground!

I fully endorse Google's stand, to let go off... some business and not succumb to dictatorship!

    Regards,

Any idea if google is taking down the adsense also from china?
If that happens, lots of chinese publishers will be in trouble.

This could mean Google.cn would be taken off in a soon.

Google - Lost billions user based in China, plus some chinese around the world. Even Google can invest in another countries as a compensation, but it may have to group around 10 countries to become as big as China these days.

China - They could be benefits from Google investment and new internet technology integration. However, it is not a big deal for China Government since "99%" companies around the world, regardless to its size geolocation and business model, are always needed to invest in China because of market size and population.

This is a lose-lose situation for both but Google took a bit more pain than China Government in this case.

DP would lose too. It seems to me that there are many DP members from China. If Google leaves, then these members have no reason to return to DP>Google forum.

    This would be unfortunate.

China has the largest population in the world and now internet users in China have also increased in number.
This would be a big loss for Google.

In a business perspective it is not a smart move for google. In addition to the search market, they would also be losing the potential cell phone market for their Nexus One phone.

They have their reasons but wow talk about the potential loss! I would not be surprised if they are back in the picture in a few years.
