Hello everyone. I have installed Microsoft antivirus for windows 7 and Avast is already installed on my computer. Can I use both at the same time ? or should uninstall anyone.

You should uninstall one of them. It is unnecessary usage of memory that may cause your computer to run low.

I used Avast around 2-3 years ago. Didn't like that much.
Around a month ago I installed Microsoft Essentials in Windows 7. And I liked it pretty much. It is really unobstructive. It will run in your background and you can't even realize it. But I just used it for few weeks because I installed Office Scan then. But it was a pretty good experience.

    Avast is good...
But if you consider and trustable antivirus.... go for Avira.

I use Microsoft Security Essentials. It is free and less obtrusive than Avast - you dont need to re-register every year for example.

    Hello Malik,
It is not a good practice to use both antivirus software at a time. They'll eat up your memory. Avast is a good product, even I personally using Avast Professional edition on Win XP for a long time and no issues.

As you've installed Windows 7, let the windows defender protect your pc. But it needs regular update.

I have read a study showing Microsoft Security Essentials is as good as most and doesn't slow down your computer like the others so uninstall all anti-virus programs and only run that.

uninstall one of them. and avast isn't effective as one might expect. either nod32 or kaspersky is better.

I will say MS Antivirus is good in Win 7. I tried others , quiet dissatisfied with their performance

It depends on if you are using 32 bit or 64 bit version of Windows 7. I am trying MSE on a laptop running W7 32 together with Windows Firewall and Windows Defender.

Everyone has their favourites, some free and some paid for but it depends greatly on what you do online.

There is a site called Matousec or something similar that regularly tests current firewall and antivirus products - it's like anything else, always have a good check round to see what works best and fits your budget.

If you are using W7 64 bit then the number of compatible products is only just slowly growing. I have found Comodo to be very good, free and junk free until the latest release.

In my experience, any antivirus is supported by Win 7 since Win 7 supported both 32 bit and 64 bit. But currently i'm prefer to use Avira since the security is much better and there are less nagging other that avast.
It's just for my opinion. xD

I wouldn't install 2 different antivirus programs if I were you. If this ms antivirus is free any idea if ms does a good job at keeping up with viruses and updating the definitions, patterns or whatever they call them? And how the performance overall is for cpu and memory usege? I have norton internet security 9 or 10. I never liked norton in the past because it was slow and bogged the cpu down. Now after several years of not having norton, I really like the speed and performance. It tends to scan your hd when you are not using your computer or when it's idle. So really sometimes I don't even know it's scanning until it's done. I come back to my computer and it says idle time scan complete want to see the results.

Before you install anti-virus software on Windows 7, you should make sure, that software is compatible with Windows 7.
