Google pagerank used to be a measurement of site important. Many years ago the pagerank has rely only with number of incoming links regardless to its quality. However, things are changed since many peoples were trying to game and gain high PR with dirty tricks. Someone also sell links based on PR so Google has to adjust their PR in a late 4-5 years and put another factor beside link popularity to calculate site PR, penalize in somehow. Many webmasters want to get high PR of their site because it is an easiest way for people to recognize site value, even high PR does not mean high value anymore.
Google PageRank (PR) is a numerical ranking from 0 to 10. PR is calculated on a periodic basis by Google for each and every page in their index. PageRank is page specific, not site specific. The PR of the pages on your site can (and probably will) vary from page to page. Google uses their proprietary (and secret) PageRank Algorithm to calculate your web page's PR based upon the quantity and quality of the links pointing to your page from other web pages, including your own pages as well as those belonging to other webmasters. It's important to understand that it isn't just the quantity of links pointing to your page that helps establish its PageRank, but also the quality of the pages that the links are on. In general, the higher the PR of the page linking to your page, the larger the PR boost that your page will receive from the link. The quantity of other outbound links on the page linking to your page has an effect on the PR calculation as well. In general, the more outbound links there are on the linking page, the smaller the PR boost that your page will receive from the link. For example, a link from a page with a PR of 5 that has 100 outbound links on it will boost your page's PR less than a PR5 page containing only 10 outbound links.
PageRank is (only) one of the methods Google uses to determine a page’s relevance or importance. Google uses many factors in ranking. Of these, the PageRank algorithm might be the best known. PageRank evaluates two things: how many links there are to a web page from other pages and the quality of the linking sites. With PageRank, five or six high-quality links from websites such as www.cnn.com and www.nytimes.com would be valued much more highly than twice as many links from less reputable or established sites. PageRank has only ever been an approximation of the quality of a web page and has never had anything to do with the measuring of the topical relevance of a web page. Topical relevance is measured with link context and on-page factors such as keyword density, title tag, and everything else. Points to be remembered for you : 1. Frequent content updates don’t improve Page Rank automatically. Content is not part of the PR calculation. 2. High Page Rank doesn’t mean high search ranking. 3. DMOZ and Yahoo! Listings don’t improve Page Rank automatically. 4. .edu and .gov-sites don’t improve Page Rank automatically. 5. Sub-directories don’t necessarily have a lower Page Rank than root-directories. 6. Wikipedia links don’t improve PageRank automatically, however pages that extract information from Wikipedia might improve PageRank. 7. Links marked with nofollow-attribute don’t contribute to Google PageRank. 8. Efficient internal onsite linking has an impact on PageRank. 9. Related high ranked web-sites count stronger. However, (very important) : A page with high PageRank may actually pass you less if it has more links, because it’s spread too thin. 10. Links from and to high quality related sites have an impact on Page Rank. 11. Multiple votes to one link from the same page cost as much as a single vote. Hope this helps you, if you have any questions, you are most welcome
Yeah. And another bad things that make PR worse is that, many webmaster abuse it and put it into business called buying and selling links which includes manipulation of PR. Google come up with some solution like the "nofollow" tag...
yes it works. if you have high pr, peple tent to look at how you made it and they visit your site. but most importantly, they want to get links in your site.
pr value are very important for the site promotion if your pr value is high directory gives you more value then lower pr site
Does PR value changes every time? And how often. I have read an article that states the same idea but the reason was not clearly explained so I need to know it. Thanks.
Google's PageRank (PR) is one of the most sought after, and yet misunderstood, web page attributes. PageRank, named after one of the founders of the Google search engine, Larry Page, was the innovative foundation that the Google search engine was built on. The theory was that a link from one web page to a web page of another site was in essence a vote for that page. The reasoning was that webmasters would only link to pages that they thought were interesting and of value to their viewers. Google used the number of inbound links (IBL) to a page to judge the importance and relevance of that page, and based on this calculation, and other factors, decided where to place that page on the search engine results page (SERP). They devised a scale of measurement for PageRank from 1 to 10. Then for the information of webmasters and interested people they produced a toolbar that can be deployed in Internet Explorer that will indicate the PageRank value of any page being viewed in the browser. These values have become known as PR0 to PR10. Note: A reader has pointed out an apparent contradiction between a scale of 1 to 10 and a reporting of PR0 to PR10. In fact PR0 indicates no PageRank. One cannot be said to have PageRank until the site achieves a PR1 ranking. Since PR values are a result of IBLs, Google decided to give them their own name and refers to inbound links as backlinks. As part of the toolbar there is a quick lookup of the number of backlinks that Google reports for the page that is currently being viewed in the browser. This search can also be done without the aid of the toolbar by simply typing "link:http://www.yourURL.com" into the Google search box. The one trick to this link search is that Google does not display all backlinks. At one time it was thought that they only listed pages with a value of PR4 or greater. Today however, you will find backlinks reported from pages of lower PR values. So, at best, Google's backlink search seems to present some sample of pages linking to the site. Suffice it to say that this search is not a reliable measure of all IBLs to a page. How is PageRank calculated? In simplest terms PR is calculated by the sharing of PR from all the IBL links to your page. This is not strictly accurate because Google also uses the internal links within a site in the calculation of PR. Each link to a page carries with it and passes PR value to the target page. The PR points or value passed depend on the PR value of the page they come from, and the total outbound links from the page. It is generally agreed that a page will only pass about 85% of its value to the page it links to. So a PR5 page with a single outbound link will pass 85% of the value of a PR5 page to the page it links to. But virtually no page has only a single link -- remember internal links are also used in the total outbound link count -- so the value passed to any page is 85% of the PR, divided by the total number of outbound links. The question now becomes what is the PR point value of the different PR levels. Most observers believe that the relationship between PR levels is logarithmic rather than linear. In other words PR5 is not worth 25% more than a PR4, but may be worth 4 to 6 times more. It is also understood that a PR value is not a single number, but is in fact a range of values. So not all PR6 ranked pages are equal. As the chart below shows a PR6 maybe just on the upper boundary of a PR5 or it maybe just short of the entry point for a PR7.
You seem to have copy pasted your content from some site and never read it at all. "As the chart below shows" which chart and where does it show ?
The value of PR depends upon the inbound links and its quality. Thousands of inbound links has less value than a few links for high PR sites. And ig you end up linking to some "bad sites" then it'll reduce you PR value!! So, be careful when you link to any site!
The page rank of your site is determined by the links to your web site. The more links you have to your site, the more votes (PR) you get. It will be interpreted by Google as much more important. And it influences to the site positions in serps
Page Rank has lesser importance today than 2 or 3 years ago. It's a general indication of how well positioned your site is in age, backlinks and traffic. There's no hard rules for Page Rank. Don't worry about it too much and instead focus on generating good content and a solid reason for your site to attract visitors.
