After doing keyword research every day (for the last 5 months) for probably what seems like hundreds of words and terms, I found a long tail keyword with 1000 local searches and 1300 global searches. What's remarkable about it all is the fact that the 4 word keyword ( using "") only has 5 competitors. My fingers are trembling with anticipation of the ezines campaign I'm about to unleash on this niche. All of this has me wondering. How rare is it to find the elusive long tail keyword with under 10 competitors. The keywords would have to have at least 500 or more monthly searches?
If you spend 5 months, it is probably not very rare to discover something like that. But why put so much effort into finding just one keyword? Why not instead find a niche, and figure out how to serve it best? The keyword in question might give you an idea about a such niche. And just because there are only 5 competitors showing for that exact phrase doesn't necessarily mean that there are no other pages to beat. Try to do an allintitle:keyword search as well. But other than that, you could be on to a great start - you should probably just consider expanding your approach rather than focusing narrowly on few long tail keywords.
Its not that I spent 5 months searching for long tail keywords with ridiculously low competitors. I usually search for long tail keywords with more than 500 searches a month, and less than 30K competitors. But while doing my keyword research yesterday, I stumbled upon a long tail keyword with almost no competition (5), and 1000 local searches. This is what lead me to wonder how rare is it to find a keyword that's searched more than 500 a month but with less than 10 competitors?
I found this few months back, such keywords are not very useful in my experience. It could be a case that google doesn't show you the proper values for a day and you see different tomorrow. Or doing "" search just doesnt mean anything related to competitors. Do a normal search instead and see the top 10 results, this is ur exact challenge because this is the term that users is going to type in their search box if you want to get into page1 top 10, this top 10results without "" are your competitors.
i want to ask all of you : are there no tools for this jobs...?? or maybe manual more better than machine /robots ??
I don't think its a case of google adjusting its values because I just did a search and it is still 5 competitors for 1000 locals. When you say do a normal search without using any of the seo tips and tricks I've learned like putting the keywords within quotations, or using intitle:, is something completely new to new. I don't understand your theory behind this...do explain.
learn2earn-- if that question is for me? It is a four word keyword. I will be submitting 5 articles to ezine shortly. The articles will be strategically sprinkled with the four words keyword, and since ezine has been approving my articles within 2 days I should know if this works or not. Success or failure will be measured by the actual traffic versus the expected traffic I think I should be getting once I'm on page 1 for the keywords. I know nothing about the niche, so I picked up a few library books. I've been studying the niche for the past few day, and have learned a lot. I've also learned that one way to stumble upon keywords is to read older books on the niche.
1stly, whats the point of doing a search on Google? To find your competitors right? Doing a "keywords" search will find a set of results with this string of keywords hugging together. In MOST case, ya these results are more likely to be the top 10 or 20 competitors. Do a keywords search without quotes and see, you might not be seeing the ones in quotes now. You see the point? Doing quotes search do let you know roughly how many people has this exact keyword in their whole site. But they might not be your competitors, meaning they might not be the one challenging you. This is similar to allinurl and allintitle searches, yes it is a very good reference but it is not accurate. While doing a NORMAL search without quotes, like the targeted user is going to do, will return you that same result the searcher will see. This top 10 or 20 in ranking you are seeing is exactly the competitors you are competing with. You only need to win and replace one of these top 10 to get into 1st page, which I suppose is your intention. So what you do quote search, allinurl, allintitle and WOW you get only 10 from all these or 5 like you said. Then doing a NORMAL search without quote gives you 20 strong competitors now, all high PR strong Backlinks site dominating the top positionings. Do you think you can win them? Do you think it's still good niche? Keyword research is all about understanding Google since they are the big brother search engine today. And no one knows what Google does EXACTLY but all guessing.
Just out of curiosity, what's kind of cpc are you expecting to get? You've put 5 months worth of work in. Ok. So lets see, 1000 searches if they all manage to come to your site, 2.5%ctr (maybe), so even at .50 cpc thats only going to be $12.50 for 5 months of work your first month.
Vexez thanks your input-- When doing keyword research, its the preponderance of the evidence that counts. I think one should use every tool at their disposal to find a potentially hot untapped niche. i use allintitle, "keywords", and keywords without quotes. There is no one right way to do keyword research, it all comes down to testing and retesting.
I'm not going to run a cpc campaign, im going to have a wordpress page linking to the ezines that I've submitted last night. The wordpress page has clickbank products in the sidebar. But once again, i have not put 5 months of work into searching for an elusive keyword with +500 searches, and under 10 competitors. I just happened to stumble across such a keyword while doing my everyday keyword research. I would have been happy with my usual criteria of finding a keyword with under 30K competitors and over 1000 local searches.
UPDATE* I did not submit 5 ezine articles; I submitted two. Both are on the top of page two for the 4 word keyword. Hmmm ... I don't know if this is success or not. As stated in previous post, the keywords pull 1000 local searches a month and 1300 global hits. What should I do with these two page 2 articles? The competition without quotes registers 600k pages.
