I'd like to hear from everyone who has either VPS or Dedicated hosting (I suppose even shared hosting) what your monthly bandwidth usage is, and if you have the info for cpu and memory usage that would be great, too. Also, please mention what type of site you have, such as a blog, e-commerce, forum, etc. Here's mine: I have a small web design company site, and a personal hobby site for showcasing art portfolios. Both are run on Wordpress and on a shared server. My monthly bandwidth is around 805mb, and I don't know my cpu or mem usage at the moment.
Everything depends on site itself. Some sites of mine have many visitors and use only a few GB of bandwidth per month, while other sites with similar number of visitors uses tons of bandwidth.
My site is ecommerce site. I using akamai cdn service. Bandwidth usage max is 800G/month and min is 600G/month
You can actually get some of the hosting account who offered their control panel has the ability to shows total CPU used, Memory comsumption and also number of processes used up on your site, if anyone exceeded the limits you can either kill them off or remove the script from the site. On my cpanel hosting control panel, i can see number of processes, amount of CPU usage, total memory comsumption and total inodes usage used up for my domain.
Hey all. Resurrecting this thread. I'd like to get an idea of how much bandwidth and memory a dating site might need. I will be launching a niche dating site in a couple months, and need a VPS for it. Of course, if you think a site like that would be better off on a dedicated server, please let me know. Also, is there a quick way to estimate how much bandwidth a site may use per month, or memory usage? Thanks again!
My personal web sites use do not much space and bandwidth. And I'm not going to share information here about my business web site. I hope you do understand why
lol well thank you for letting me know you can't post anything that would be in any way informative. Anyone have info/data on the type of website they run and the amount of resources it uses? As well, if a dating site would be better off on a dedicated server, or if a VPS would be a fine starting point?
Surely there is. When your site is finished, load it once and see how much bandwidth is uses. Let's say it uses 1 MB with all images, etc. So if you expect 1000 visitors per month, you will need 1000 MB monthly bandwidth at least. Don't forget that most of visitors will load multiple pages.
No problems. Just please keep in mind this method isn't 100% accurate, but it's still better than guessing.
