I saw someone here in DigitalPoint with a signature linking to a web directory with page rank 6 ( I can share the link via PM ). It had only 3 backlinks two from government websites with high PR. It was certainly a dropped domain name with no traffic, whose Page rank is being redeemed by the new registrant. my question is that if that type of web directory which has pre-existing page rank and no traffic , beneficial for SEO ? I am not certain but somehow i believe YES!. need opinions about this.. Regards.
For a short time benefit i think yes, until Google figure it out and drop it back to new website status.
But my point is that even if Google marks it as New Website again, it has got quality backlinks which will turn its pagerank to high again in no matter of time! GOVERNMENT WEBSITE --> DIRECTORY --> YOUR WEBSITE this chain is still not broken, so what would be the effect? moreover, lets assume the pr of your backlink provider is dropped (may be a blogroll or a directory listing ) then would your PR will also drop ? This is a different question.
Its depend how good backlinks are. The site might even retain its PR on next update, but if name is crap (such as thisismymommy.com) and that turn into dir....well, I think that's just cheating.
I dont want to reveal that name here but name is very much official looking ( as it was actually a government website, god knows how did he acquired it ) and it certainly do not look like a web directory by that domain name.
Usually no, however some site that remains similar to the old site can retain some of the backlinks. If is just any old domain that been turned into a directory the answer is NO, most dropped domains loose most if not all PageRank. I have only known a couple of sites that managed to maintain the existing PageRank. Thanks Brian
The question is that if it retains Page rank ( I guess the one I am talking about will do so ) then would it provide nice link juice ?
If it retains Pagerank after an update it should be treated like any other website, so yes. Thanks Brian
No, its not my own, ( but I would love to acquire such names if you could tell me the method ) I just want to make full use of the directory to give myself backlinks to all my websites. In fact I have already submitted one of my sites there and waiting for the outcome.
They are actually the opposite, most offer free links to build up traffic stats for a couple of months then they sell the directory and the new owners wipe them clean and start charging. Then page rank disappears and usually so does the directory.
The domain I was talking about is still retaining its PageRank. And funny is to see that no other pages than home has got a PR.
Yes, I am very interested to know that would it be upgraded or downgraded. If its other pages also get PR, I will use it as my secret high PR directory to get backlinks
I dont even see a point of "buying" one for long term benefits... If you buy such a domain you'll probably get some PR freaks to buy "links" from u and get more than your cost price for the domain...but if that makes you believe you'd find long term submitters for the directory, you couldnt go more wrong. Another problem with buying high pr dropped domains is that not only the domain loses pagerank but also do the inner pages of the site take AGES to gain any pr whatsoever...(My observation) The site gets treated as a baby by the search engines...and more than often, stays that way!
With Goolge, you do not receive the full benefit of any link immediately. The link must age. How long? We don't know for sure, but most believe it is 3 to 10 months. By that time, Google will have seen the change in this website that is now a directory and probably de-indexes it. So, IMHO, submitting to it is a waste of time.
