I've always loved wordpress, but lately it seems there are thousands of useless plugins that only slow down a site or have absolutely no real purpose for the improvement of the site.

    Here is what I use:
    1. All in One SEO
    2. XML Sitemaps
    3. Contact Form 7
    4. SexyBookmarks
    5. Askimet

I don't really deviate from these five plugins, what do you guys do?

    Dan

What about pluins for security? You don't list any of those.

Disable Revisions and Autosave - keeps from having a bloated database
    Secure WordPress - for security
WordPress File Monitor - for security good early warning if your blog gets hacked
WordPress Database Backup - security and insurance in case of server problem or if you get hacked

I've only been attacked once, most of those plugins are useless to fence off an attack. If your host and passwords are secure, you shouldn't have any problems. And these won't do anything against a trojan in your computer that logs keys, which is how most blogs get hacked.

Askimet uses knowledge from hundreds of thousands of other blogs using the plugin to detect and flag spam. It uses IP addresses, text, and linking to keep comments from showing up in your recent comments section and sends them to your spam instead.

I use almost 30 plugins and my site loads fast.

If you have a trable, use a cache plugin. ;)

Err 30 plugins?!? What could 30 plugins possibly do... Your site runs fast to you, because your computer saves all the information, but it loads very slowly to your visitors. Your bounce rate must be over 90%

So if you don't have a use for a plug in then it's "useless". hmmm

Sorry no dis-respect - but - these to are most definitely not useless. Wordpress file monitor will let you know by email if any changes in your wp file system change immediately after it happens. The database backup is so that after you get hacked you can restore what may have been lost.

WordPress File Monitor - for security good early warning if your blog gets hacked
WordPress Database Backup - security and insurance in case of server problem or if you get hacked

You asked for us to share other plugins that we use and I did. The idea of them being useless for the reasons you state are incorrect because those are not issues with your blog. The reasons you gave are issues with you local computer.

All I was saying was that most of those plugins are easily replaceable by normal security measures, like keeping the most current wp install on your blog, taking care of permissions, and using a reliable web host. I appreciate your input on the plugins, they do help some people.

I use the plugins listed by the OP except for 3 and 4. I use WP-Contact and Sociable plugins instead, they work great for me.

Rohit, why do you use a Google Analytics plugin? It's not really necessary.

Well I just use it to easy use of code in blog, I know it's not necessary as we can simply put in header or footer.:)

Yes, You are right, But I also add some other tracking codes too so to avoid this I just put Anlytics in Header through plugin rather then doing HTML edit.:p
