Hello everyone, Every time when I read something about SEO or how to promote a website, most of the time people give advice that only works for blogs. For instance, writing a killer article every week and concentrate on your niche. But what about a non blog website? Like a search engine or a forum or websites that don't have a lot of writing. What are your suggestions? Thank you for reading.
Actually, this suggestion works for non-blogs too. Write quality content that sells and it will sell. That doesn't have to be "Sell-me-best-of-all" style writings. You can write technical comparisions, experiments, case studies, examples of application of your product and so on. Also, you still can create a blog additionally to your main site and benefit all those "blog-only" methods
The whole idea is to update the content of your website and have it as unique as possible. Sure it is more difficult with static pages but not impossible. Brother_of_devil's suggestions are great start. Don't also forget to exchange links with other sites.
Some type of websites just don't have a lot of content. Take this website as an example, www.myfinalcountdown.com, it's an online countdown clock. Don't have much content to be updated. Exchange links with other sites might be useful.
The best way is social bookmarking your articles as well as article submission. Hope this will help you.
It is not only blog that needs regualrly updated content in order to rank well. Even non-blog website will need good regular content that is updated regularly. If as you say, it is like a countdown clock website that cannot take much new content then try to concentrate on getting visitors through PPC (adwords) or through links from other sites.

Search engines and social media sites really helps to promote site. Make mini sites on Squidoo, Hubpages, use Face book , stumble, digg, twitter, forum participation,link building and article submission, Blogs Comments Posting etc. also helps to reach our targeted audience. Better online marketing tools are very effective. Also you can increase your site rank just by getting backlinks from higher PR sites.
I have recently tried link wheels , but the idea here is to generate content related to your website + containing links to your website. Then promote those content pages using bookmarks, 2nd degree articles etc. But to avoid content writing you can try using social bookmarking.
You can also write an article for your site and submit it to article directories. Use your site as your landing page in the links on your article.
SEO for non-blog is similar to what you think is for blogs website. I really don't think that it is worth to think differently on this. Process is as similar to the other process for blog or non-blog.
I would suggest that even a non blog website must have a built in mini blog to add fresh content regularly and attract subscribers.
