They are legal in most countries (not in countries like China and Iran). The only thing you have to monitor is the use of your proxy, because like an ISP, anybody can access anything and unless you know what you are doing and are logging everything and complying with law enforcement, you could end up responsible for anything illegal browsed/downloaded via your proxy. You will also need a proxy-specific host like MyProxyHosting, but that is more because of the resource usage rather than the legality.
How could i be responsible for any such browsing via my proxy? Ofc its a public proxy ,so everyone can use and surf any sites, and i aint keeping any logs of sites surfing via my site. My host allows me proxy hosting , so resources isnt a matter of concern for me.And even if i does turns out to be,i'll just switch my host. Also why is this illegal in Iran and China? any idea , why?
Almost any website is legal most of the time. It's the random sub categories that get you into trouble. Porn = legal for age Child Porn = Illegal I'm not even going into this Proxies = legal may infringe on policies, but by state law they are legal Hacker Proxies = Illegal for doing something illegal Content download sites = legal - if the person doing owns it 100% Copyrighted stuff = illegal because your doing it without permission
If it's a public proxy, it's just as easy for somebody to access childporn.com (not a real site) as it is to access warez.com as it is to access facebook.com. And you really need to log data, at least for 30 days. That way, if you get a call from law enforcement saying that your proxy was using for illegal activities, you can help give them information and shift the blame onto the person using your proxy and not you. You also need a good TOS. Because the governments there like to control all information and block access to certain sites, and by using proxies to get past those blocks you are defying the government.
but that doesnt make it illegal for the proxy owner (unless they live there), its illegal for the citizen who lives there to use a proxy.
It is illegal to run or use a proxy in those countries. Regardless, you probably want to ban China and Iran anyways from your proxy because they earn you nothing from advertisers and use a tremendous amount of resources.
Yes, they're perfectly legal, otherwise they wouldn't have them. Every computer I've been on has the bar on them under internet tools. As long as you don't misuse them, like for taken copyrighted material off a site. I use them and I encourage the use of them if you don't feel safe around the net. They're also useful if you want to download something at a faster rate. So yeah, if used for a good reason, they're okay.
I think you've missed the point of the thread. He's asking about owning a proxy site and the legal responsibilities that may follow.
