Technically speaking, Chrome runs rings around IE and spits in its face.

I think it's a lot better if you make a poll outta this. IMO Firefox is a lot better due to its speed, security and addons. The biggest advantage of using Firefox is the addons. It's like the iPhone with the App Store. Though IE is more light weight compared to firefox. Firefox is well known to hog a lot of resources after prolonged use. But that can be easily solved by restarting the Firefox.

It is not. IE has the advantage of using components in the OS others don't have access to and, therefore, its memory usage does not entirely show up under task manager.

I use Firefox only because of the availability of plugins and addons. This is why even in Chrome they have started opening up to extensions and addons and publicizing the same as a way of driving adoption of Chrome. Also Firefox' addon model is open to question .xpi files are not scanned for viruses. A malicious author can write a .xpi file to infect with trojan etc and it wont even be detected.

Absolutely false! ALL add-ons are scanned with custom tools developed by Mozilla.

As a linux user I haven't touched Internet Explorer in a while. Although Firefox was my choice when I was using Windows 98 and XP. I'm still too paranoid to use Google Chrome.

There's not much of a difference to me, I use both Safari and FireFox, not much of a difference to me, they both work fine for me.

Firefox is much more flexible and secure than IE, regardless the version of IE. However, IE does have some big advantage over Firefox.

    1. Most of Bank Corporate site, especially internet banking and related, only preferred IE and will never works with Firefox. The webpage would be freezed when you use Firefox to open it or trying to log-in. I do not understand about this in details but it may be related to their specific element such as Active X or something.

    2. Some old websites work better when use IE to open it.

Another one thing that annoying me about Firefox is, hog resources consumed. When you use Firefox in the first time after reboot, eveythings seems smoothly until you have used it for quite a long time. Around 3-4 hours then Firefox would caused everything slower and slower. Even if you close all other tabs and left the only one, or close it completely and re-open it. When I look closer I found Firefox consumed 500 - 800 MB of memory with 40-55% CPU usage. The only way to fix this is, reboot your PC again. I hope Firefox developers may have solution for this in a soon.

It is very interesting discussion here.
Last question as a newbie in web browser field jargon.
Which is easy to hack and less secure Firefox or IE7/8?

    Tks!

This is no longer true and most bank sites have better standards compliance. For me, all our financial institutions work fine with any browser.
I have not seen such things in many years.
Absolutely false and you are confusing the difference between Firefox, 3rd party add-ons that cause such problems, and normal cacheing operations.
Which helps prove my point. As shown by ArsTechnica and Lifehacker tests, FF uses less memory than IE and little more than any other browser.

You are misinterpreting what you are seeing. In fact, my office has 10 boxes, all run Firefox 24/7 and are never turned off, never rebooted, we have no issues.

Some latest versions of firefox uses sql-lite data collection techniques so clearing cache does not patch a hole in security.
    Just for info.
