How Does Google Look at Page Names?

    Hey everyone!
Just wondering if there is a proper way to create page names. Does Google frown on one method and like another?

    For Example:

All of my existing pages are like this:

    Pest_control_about_us.html

Seo experts trying to sell me their services say that I should have them like this:

    Pest-control-about-us.html

What is correct for google in your opinion?

    Thanks in advance!

I use hiphens all the time. By default, most CMS use hiphens, so I'm assuming hiphens are more beneficial then underscores. Don't quote me on it though - just an observation.

Using "-" (dashes) is good option as google spider will count it as spaces(I think), but using "_" (underscore) will make it as full single word.

this result may be explain more -

    Result with "-" dash = 9,240,000

    but

    Result with "_" (underscore) = 2

So I think using dashes is better choice.

another example is Wordpress, when you create a new post under post name see "Permalink". It also use dashes and I don't think I need to tell you about Wordpress.

    Hope it will help you.

    Best of Luck

Use hyphens in page names wherever possible. Not underscores. Underscore means it is part of the same word. Hope that clears it a bit.

Google treats hyphen as a delimiter that is “internet-marketing” is treated as “internet marketing”
Whereas a filename with underscore “internet_marketing” will be treated as “internet_marketing” only.

So use Hyphens and use keywords in the filenames. It will help your website SEO.

Use hypens or dashes are ok, but don't use underscore. Because nobody will searh keywords like "pest_control"

In this case, I'll do observation. I'll look at my competitors who rank on top and check on their url what they use and effective on their part and apply to my site.
