Well, SEO is all about the following three things:

    1) Keywords
    2) Content
    3) Linking

So, we must keep attention toward all three things so that we the optimization process of your website should be up to the mark..So we should create a very good and unique content and we should use the proper and relevant keywords in the unique content so that we can get back links to our website....

you need quality content and if you can get a link in someone's great content linked to your site it is even better. so links and content and links in content.

It's an age old question, and it's one that will be debated for years to come.

In my opinion, if you are going after even moderately competitive niche, then you can't have one without the other if you want to do well. Both are absolutly crucial.

There are examples of both where there is some mild success using one without the other. For example, if you target low volume, low competition, long tail keywords, then you can rank well with just content and no backlinks, as revolutions decorder said.

And if you have crappy or duplicated content but tons of backlinks, you may be able to rank well even on competitive phrases.

But the question I have is , "Why would you tie one arm behind your back?" No one's on page optimization is good enough to get you on the first page of a competitive phrase without building backlinks. And if you use duplicate content, there is a high risk of being de-index by google.

It's obvious to me that the best approach is to have unique, quality content, do all of your on page optimization, and then go on to build quality backlinks. I'd also recommend social bookmarking, and guest blogging as other ways to further promote your website. And if you're actually selling something, I'd strongly consider ppc advertising as well.

That gives you the best overall chance to succeed.

    Hello Friend,

According to seo, we can not ignore any activity, so we should update content and try to build good back links.

Content first, then links. As you continue both and both age, you will do better.

The huge leap forward that Google made that gave it the edge over search engines, was an algorithm that was predicated on the idea that what other people say about a site is more significant than what it says itself. And faulty as the PR and backlinks system is, it's still largely true.
Why have all the major search engines diminished, if not entirely down away with - the keyword tag? - because a webmaster can say anything in that tag - you can say your site is about cats when it's really about dogs, but if someone else says it's about cats, if lots of other people say it's about cats, then the liklihood is, it is about cats.
You can't rely on a site performing well for a competitive keyword without recommendations - votes - backlinks from other sites. Certainly not in Google - the interlinking of the internet is at the heart of it's algorithm.

contents still. if your domain is really good that matches the keywords then it would probably be easy to get into the first page.

Oh really? Well, let's suppose your site is about 'prepaid credit cards' - lets see how easily you sail onto the first page for that without back links.

Both of these are directory proportional to each other. If you keep updating the contents for your website certainly it is more effective, If you continuously keep building the inbound links that is also effective. So we can say both of these are beneficial and are directly proportional to each other.

You need a combination of back links from high pr site to get your site to the first page of the search engine.

If your site is fairly new you it will take some time for the search engine to gain its trust.

Here are some of the ways to build back link

    Article marketing
    Forums
    Press release
    Social networking
    Blogging
    Blog commenting
    Onlin classified

    And many more
