I just read that ICANN may approve xxx as a top level domain for adult sites. Hope its true... it would be nice to get in early on some good names before there all taken.
Why? Existing popular adult websites with backlinks & PR won't switch to xxx. They will keep their .coms. If it is approved it will be run by it's private sponsor (ICM Registry) who keep registration prices high for in-demand names & keywords. http://news.cnet.com/8301-19518_3-10467280-238.html
The initial text is as follows: ICANN announced that it will take into consideration the plan for .xxx adult domain . A spokesman stated that this issue will be discussed on 12 March. "ICANN will take another look at the proposal and it will be on the agenda at the meeting on Friday." The plan for .xxx adult domain was dropped in 2007,when some conservative groups had some concerns about the domain. The ICM Registry sent a letter to ICANN ,explaining the importance of .xxx domain names. Stuart Lawley, chairman of ICM Registry stated that " "ICM remains committed to the .xxx project, and is eager to work with ICANN to take the steps necessary to launch the new sponsored top-level domain and, in so doing, ensure that the results of the first-ever ICANN Independent Review Process are fully implemented in accordance with ICANN's own core values of accountability, transparency and objectivity." .XXX domain names will be used only for adult websites.
No it won't. .xxx is a stupid idea, at least given the reasons most people give for creating it. It just makes it easier to find porn. If you operated a porn site with a .com, would you get rid of your .com and use .xxx instead exclusively? Why? To save $8 a year? Of course not. You would keep both. So people would have two ways of finding your site, and even if the .xxx was blocked, the .com would still be there.
but if they start the .xxx extension and ask all registrars to stop allowing porn sites on other extensions then ?????
Why would a registrar care about the content of a site. The even do not care for TM domain registration....
That will never happen. Nobody can agree on what "porn" is, and in many countries the national registries would not agree to someone else's definition of it. There will always be porn scattered throughout the DNS.
because two letters tld are for countries and 3/4 (or more like .travel) letters are for gtld and mtld
This is something that *I think* will not ever materialize. porn are everywhere on the internet, they wont go and kill themselves by moving over to .xxx domain.
its not happening guys its been knocked back once again No .xxx yet: Internet agency delays porn decision http://www.physorg.com/news187607198.html
Ya! I do think it will be a good idea and it will help to filter adult content on web very easily. So, it should be seperated with .XXX tld.
