hey all ! ok, i just need to share this as it's driving me mad. i'm advertising for a client, he is a plumber. now just the other day some new ads appeared for popular keywords. problem was they were all writen similar, i suspected that they may have been from the same company, so i clicked the ads and my suspicion were confirmed. A plumbing company has got 3 domains and duplicated there website 3 times for each domain. so then they can run 3 adwords campaigns and have 3 ads appear all at once. surely this is abuse? JM
I agree with you that it is stretching the "intent of the law", Google's law in this case. However, they may not see it that way. If it appears to Google that these are three separate companies, I don't think they'll do anything about it. They probably can't legally do anything about it. But if that company created these accounts under the same name or anything that points to the same entity, then you'd have a case and Google would swiftly ban them. What what it's worth, I think that company is doing itself a disservice. If I click on three ads, they spend about three times more. Their cost per sale will be three times what it would be with only one site. Also, it's not always easy to maintain one account let alone three. If they use the same or similar ad, what's the point? If the sites are the same or similar, what's the point? They'll just alienate their potential customers. Get back at them by creating better quality ads and offer something they don't. That will drive up your QS, put you in a better position and drive up their costs.
Use this to your advantage, bid on their names and keywords. Put up ads with copy that somehow differentiates your from that other company (w/o) mentioning the name. Infer something untrustworthy about the other ads. Plumbing Service Tired of mafia plumbers? We are the honest alternative www......
It's fair enough I suppose, it must take a lot of work to have 3 websites (if they rank well). What I don't like about it is that your competitors can just click on your ad and blow your daily budget. I don't like the idea at all.
You could try looking at their whois results, business address etc and reporting them to Google as this is in clear breach of their Ts&Cs.
Have your plumber client have his employees use the search terms at their home and click on one add, back button and do that two more times. LOL
