Basically I am wondering if one day Google will decide to pull PR from all directories on the internet, or do they not have a problem with them? I am aware of link farms and those are not good, but just regular directories that you see here do they have a problem with that?
Directories are like any other site, as long as they have good incoming links and don't link to spammy sites they will have no problem with the search engines, however if one of those two doesn't exist then they will be devalued in an case by case basis. At least that's what I think.
Search engines love directories. Where else can they get such an abundance of quality human edited websites? If a directory meets the Google trusted site criteria they spend a lot of time and burn up a large amount of bandwidth retrieving data. I have been operating directories since before Google and don’t foresee and end of directories in the future. I think you will see a larger roll between quality directories and search engines in the future.
Forever is a long, long time. I do see directories playing a major role in the architecture of the web for the indefinite future.
I think this quote says it all… Search engines need good directories to help then classified sites.
Thanks, I only ask since I really want to expand my directories and don't want to risk a lot of money on something that can easily be pulled if Google says so.
The web directory, as we know it today, will most likely evolve into something else over the next couple of years - but they will still be around.
As long as there is a need for more link popularity then I think they will be around for awhile, the question is which ones will survive to tell.
this brings up a question that I've had for quite some time. How much DOES Google love me? I run the Cyberbilt Web Directory and it has been up for just over 3 months. So far, this month...Google has "hit" my site more in the past 6 days than it did in all of last month. This is at a total of just over 2000 times. Is that high? Is that normal? Low? I don't know...but if someone can share their stats it would help me know where I stand. MSN and Yahoo have hit my site 500 times each this month also. As for directories being around for awhile...I hope so because I've spent to much time planning, designing, and advertising for my site to go away any time soon
If you study up on SEO Google will hit your sites too many times Heck my directories and sites get visited by every search engine just about every minute. It came to a point where I had to disable to visit stat logs since they were so huge from all of the visits
Forever? You mean, after the Earth is swallowed by the sun and mankind either becomes extinct or evolves into something even more horrible? Seriously, directories will be around in some form as long as there are more than a few hundred websites out there, and a need to categorise them into topics. In the future they may look quite different, and be managed in ways we can't predict, but they will still be around in some form.
Thje best will stay, the mediocre will survive and eventually fade away, the poor will die Thats how it is in most business sectors, the Internet is no different Answer this question Why is Digital Point Forums one of the busiest sites on the internet Because it is 'the best' real simple logic 'the best'
