Google gave me a huge traffic spike

I started a site back in March, which was a calendar of events for my niche. I now have 1200 pages indexed in google.

Up until three days ago, I'd normall get 20 - 30 uniques per day, with 90% of traffic from search engines, and 90% of search engine traffic from google.

In the past three days, my traffic has spiked from 20 - 30 uniques per day to ~200 uniques per day, due to google.

Has this happened to anyone else? I'm not sure what caused it. I've changed nothing on the site. Just all of the sudden, BAM google started giving me traffic.

The bulk of my traffic does not come from one single keyword. I have around 1,000 pages which are actual content pages. The traffic comes from just a few searches per day spread over many of those pages.

It might have to do with a big event or recent important news regarding your niche. For example, sites having to do with Crocman Steve Irwin have seen a lot of traffic this last week because of his death.

Probably time to do some analytics on your site. Many of the common analytics packages--like Urchin and etc. give you the ability to see the search terms used in referring traffic to your site. This is INDISPENSEABLE in helping you understand where and what type of traffic is coming in...

Hm, I think that behaviour has something with sandbox issues.
I think that sandbox is due to rebuilding of IDF index for anchor, URL or something like that. I think that sandbox is due to rebuilding some IDF indeces.
That update is periodical and you are now getting more traffic due to index update... But again, idea to generate a bunch of pages to get into index hoping that you will get traffic is bad idea since you will get traffic with some obscure search terms and that traffic will be untargeted traffic which converts very bad.

I have this site set up with Google Analytics. This is how I know the leading keywords are different each day, each week, etc.

Let us know if the traffic drops off as fast as it came.

I think you need to do some keyword analysis to knwo the reason. I am going for lessened sandbox effect and hence higher rankings for obscure keywords hence more hits.

Actually, I have noticed the same with one of my sites these last couple of days with about a 100% increase in search engine traffic for obscure keywords ... and GUESS WHAT!!!! ... The site was also started in March!!!

Is this the proof we needed that Googles sandbox lasts for 6 months?????

I think I am going mad.

Google blessed your site, it means your content is trustable and well indexed ;), you can sell some links regarding your traffic if you show proofs of it.
