Here's something to think about: August 4, 2009 at 2:57 pm More info here: http://bhc3.wordpress.com/2009/05/21/something-is-very-wrong-with-bit-lys-click-counts/ So next time you're saying Twitter converts shit, maybe try to calculate how much real traffic you've sent ?
Most of the url shortener sites showing fake clicks, even though if doesn't have follower it will show some number of clicks.
You just have to try different url shorteners..bit.ly and tinyurl have had their problems in the past. I use Pretty Link from my blog and Su.pr from Tweet Adder which seem to be fairly accurate when I track with my webstats. Quick update to this: I just posted a tweet using the Su.pr link and it is showing 5 clicks. When I look at the stats on the affiliate I am promoting it also shows 5 clickthroughs ...so it looks as though this is fairly accurate...give it a try!
Here's a different story. Yesterday I've posted to around 300k followers (through Sponsored Tweets). Current stats are: around 200 clicks on the affiliate page. And....around 20-30 clicks counted at Sponsored Tweets. So advertising platform counts only around 10% of the traffic. Not without a reason, eh ? That's how I started to look for this info and found the page I posted in 1st message that clears everything out. masticafe, 3 messages and 0 value. Go find another thread to hang out.
Yes Cafe del Mar I agree that it all depends with twitter. I have another account that I set up an autoblog for and didn't get great results. I think that the only way to succeed (in my humble experience - lol) with twitter is to establish a conversation with your followers. I do this on my main pearlydean twitter account and get a lot of responses to my tweets. I don't just post promo tweets though and my followers retweet my jokes and quotes and also now and again my blog posts tweets. But I get your point about the stats being incorrect which doesnt help when you are trying to promote for a client! If I find anything more useful I will post back and if you do can you let me know too? Cheers Keith
i had the same idea that Twitter traffic doesnt convert. based on the experience from some other people I cam across I had to change my mind. however all of them seem to use some software for their marketing efforts at Twitter.
Yes, it's important to pay attention to the followers you're getting. Make sure you're not following bots and bots are not following you, or your conversion rates will be very low.
You're missing the point. I've stated that 85-95% of twitter traffic are bots. It wasn't a question if it converts.
