Google doesn't index sitemap URLS

Discussion in 'Google Sitemaps' started by liqdwork, Mar 8, 2010.

How long does it take for google to index sitemap urls? I had submitted a sitemap.xml file in google webmaster tools for one of my domains. The sitemap.xml doesn't have any errors according to google webmaster tools. It counted all submitted URLS (528). However, it is been 2 weeks now and in google webmaster tools Indexed URLs shows 0. This domain is 1 year old and it had only one page of content for 12 month and two weeks ago I submitted this sitemap. Is it possible that because I had no content for 1 year and all of a sudden submitted sitemap.xml with 528 URLS, google decided not to index sitemap? What could be the reason for google taking so long to index sitemap.xml file?

I think you are pretty close to the problem. Google tries to guess how often a site is updated and index it accordingly. If there was no change for 12 months then it will take some time until google warms up to your site. The counter in the webmaster tools only show the sitemap indexed count, this is always lower than the one you get by searching for site:www.yoursite.com

The sitemap should be acknowledged in Google Webmaster tool in one business day or less. All the links may not be crawled for several days.

I had similar problem, I changed my sitemap to XML (see sitemap.xml on my site) and changed "changefreq" field to "daily", the next morning google indexed all of my pages.

google indexing is not guaranted. how ever you can improve the ranking of your site for google and other search engines by building backlinks to your site. this will increase the robot speed to access your site. as links is discovered, it will remeber your site and crawl it. add fresh content also by php or manually. you can build links on article directories or forums.

Google index URL depend on link, how to create link for your website. what's theme is used for link building. also one more thing google always see your link is Spam, PR page.
if website link back on good page PR then crawling speed automatically increase.

Might take a few weeks or more to indes that many pages. It will be hard to create links to that many pages, just wait google should catch up.

The time it takes to crawl your site and the number of pages that it actually crawls will depend on a number of factors, these were confirmed by Matt Cutts on their Google Webmasters Youtube video a day or two ago. Basically the better your SEO and I mean white hat, the more pages are likely to be crawled. Links from other good sites to pages deeper in your site help.

Interesting... my problem was that google was slowly dropping pages from my sitemap for some reason, but then reindexed them all again. Now it's slowly dropping the pages again... go figure...

If you haven't update your content for that long, it will takes time for google to index your pages. And it is not always helpful to submit site map to get your site indexed. I think you'd better build some links from the existing sites relevant to your niche first.

First of all check your robots.txt file if you set disallow command for your domain then remove it. If you don't find then resubmit site map through webmaster tool and also update your site content (as you said you didn't update content for 12) and make some links and do some directory for your site. i sure you will find better result.

    Thanks
