    Hey,

I have a few simple questions:

    1. How many back links can you receive of a single page on a single site?
    2. When we talk about key words in back links, do we mean the anchor text?
    3. How do we know if a site is dofollow or nofollow.
    4. How do I check how many back links I have, a reliable source please.

    Regards,

There is no limit to the number of links a web page can receive.

Yes. Getting keywords in your anchor text is what will help to improve your rankings in the search engines.

You can check the html code and look for rel="nofollow". This instructs the search engine spiders to ignore the link (not pass any PageRank or Page Reputation).

You can also use a plug in if you use Firefox

    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5687

After you install and activate this plugin in, it will highlight all of the links on a page. The blue highlighted links are DoFollow and the pink highlighted links are NoFollow.

If you simply want to check the number of links pointing to a web page, you can use Yahoo!'s Site Explorer (it's free).

    https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/

If you want to check the anchor text for those links you will need to use some kind of software program to extract the links and analyze the anchor text. I use, and recommend, WebComp Analyzer. It's not a free tool, but it is very fast and very accurate.

Not using some kind of software tool to analyze the anchor text of links is simply too time consuming. The manual work required would take hours, so it's just not practical.

    Hope this helps,

    Neil

    Hey,

Thanks for all the help, really appreciate it! :)

Regarding Yahoo Site Explorer, I typed my URL in the top box and clicked 'Explore URL' - then is it 'Inlinks' to check my back links? Because in 'Inlinks' I have my own site linking my own site

Yes, that is correct. After you have typed in your URL you will want to click on 'InLinks' to see the links from other websites that are linking to you.
