    Hi,

I have a question for you.

Ideally how much time should it take to rank no. 1 in Google with a keyword having not very tough competition.

    Regards

If depends on your definition of 'not very tough'.

If the competition is low enough that I can get in the first SERP with on page optimization only, then I'd say less than an hour.

But a phrase has to be pretty weak in regards to competition if you can get to the first spot will only on page optimization, and nothing else. Do a intitle:"key phrase" to gauge how many people are specifically targetting this keyphrase.

    Hi,

I checked with the above command and there are approx 21,600 results with my targeted keyword.

So what time do you think such keyword can take to rank no. 1 in Google.

    Regards
    HZ

Well, that means that there are 21,600 people that you are directly competing with. I'm sure we can get past most of those with just some on page optimization. But there are probably a fifty or more pages in that 21,600 that have also done on page optimization to their page in order to get higher rankings for that SERP. Those are the ones you'll have to worry about. To rank higher than those pages, you'll need some quality, one way, do follow backlinks from pages that are relevant, have good PR, and have a low number of outbound links. The more backlinks you acquire like this, the closer to the top you'll get.

The number of backlinks that you'll need will depend on the quality of the backlinks you get. For example, if you a get a do follow link on the homepage of google, you'll be in the first position for that SERP as soon as the index next updates. That's not very realistic though, those kind of links aren't readily available. You'll probably need hundreds, or even thousands of quality backlinks of all different kinds of quality to come close to the number 1 spot.

So, the answer to your question becomes, it will take as long as it takes you to accumulate enough quality backlinks to get Google to accept that you page is more important on the internet than all the other pages in front of you. Depending on the competition of the SERP, I've had some projects where that took days, and other projects that it took years. I'd say yours probalby falls in between somewhere.

That's easy. Alexa is easy to manipulate because it counts ALL hits on your site, even ones from bots. manually submit to every search engine you can find, and they will send bots to crawl your site. Also submit to any other site that uses a crawler, such as site that count outbound links, site that validate html, etc.

The point is, alexa rank is practically worthless. If you're goal is to make your alexa look good, there's tons of ways ot cheat in order to do so.

I know the majortiy of the questions in this thread are geared towards all seo, but wondering if you could take a look at my site and let me know if there is anything obvious that i could fix to improve search engine optimization

my site is pr4, been going for 4 years now, and is unique content. I'm a bit frustrated as i'm not seeing the traffic i feel should be receiving

    website = kennygrant dot ca

I feel like i've done everything right, 2000 backlinks, links going to other pages than homepage, but still no substantial traffic

Any ideas? Or suggestions? I'm thinking about removing some of the links on the homepage, there might be too many.. but other than that, it seems pretty 'optimized' imo

    Anyways.. thanks for your time

    PR4 does not equal traffic.
PR4 does not even equal good position on SERPs.

Remember that 95% of all businesses online that fail, do so because of poor key phrase selection. They do not choose key phrases that they can realistically compete on with their budget. Or they choose key prhases that do not have any traffic.

The rest fail because they have not done proper on page optimization for those key phrases.

Looking over your site, it looks like you've got a bit of all 3 going on.

I have been doing linkbuilding on my site for a while now. I have been optimizing www.waikoloavacationrentals.com/kolea-rentals for kolea and kolea rentals. I can not seem to get th number one spot and I was wondering what you see they my competition may have on me in those search terms.
I am not worried about on page. I am happy with my on page, meta, etc. Everyone can argue that you need this there or that there, but as far as what I see it is good. I am just concerned about your thoughts on the link building.

Start building quality (relevant content) High PR backlinks. Try and find other travel sites on here that you can buy links on. Do that with enough sites, and you will snag that first spot (but it wont be easy by any means. Its going to take a lot of time, and a lot of quality quality links)

No. Adwords ads do not count as backlinks, nad provide no SEO benifit whatsoever.

Run efficiently, though, they are an excellent source of very targetted, quick traffic. If you are looking for conversions, this will probably be the best way to get them quickly.

I dont think this red tag is creating any problem for your WP blog. I can suggest to implement G webmaster tools there and then submit sitemap.xml (change Frequency: Daily, Priority: Automatic}. Also optimize .htaccess file from your server and put a non www and index.html redirection there on 301 mode. It will certainly work for good indexing and frequent caching of your site interms of getting better SEO results. This is what I experienced with my other WP - Blogs clients.

Well, buddy. My query is also similar. My blog is relating to personality development. But google shows strange behavior. My blog is ranked in page 3 when searched from www.google.com.np (keyword--personality development), ranked in page 5 when searched in http://www.google.com/intl/en/ and can not be found upto page 10 when searched in www.google.co.in. Why is this variation? Does locations or zones make difference in search queries?
My another question is that, as my blog is listed page 3 in google and in 20th position in yahoo search engine for the same keyword, why i am not able to get good amount of traffic? and as far as BING concerned, my blog is not listed upto top 100, why is this? Does Bing has different mechanism to judge a blog? waiting for your reply. Thank you in advance. And if you got time do check my blog so, wht SEO i need to do for it to be search engine friendly....my blog is my signature

Yeah Google ranks sites different for every location. They have slightly different ranking methods for other countries because they have different search patterns. If your site has certain words found in a certain area of the country your more likely to rank higher in that subdomain than you are for another one.

Every search engine has a different way of ranking, but dont worry too much about yahoo and bing because they dont come close to the traffic that google does.
