well , the whole paypal issue raised up when banks were asked to show records of the payments and in this PayPal got into issues with RBI .. as paypal is now forwarding and keeping track records of the withdrawl so if asked we have to show proofs to bank . But at the same time not necessary that they will ask everytime .. i cant even imagine my bank to gimme a call for this lolz . :p

I'm not sure that BANK will give phone call. I am using HDFC and since last 3 months just to confirm that you are going to receive money so whether you want to accept it OR decline it and also they will ask the purpose of money, I am getting calls when I get any payments in foreign currencies from outside of India.

Now as per my understanding, PayPal will convert the money at their own and send us the payments in INR so I don't think bank wants to confirm because it will be a kind of regular LOCAL currency transaction. What you think guys??

Previously my Bank used to call me and ask the reason for money transfer and once the bank manager there asked me submit a letter stating the reasons i recieve payment from paypal. so I submitted it long back, since then they wont call me.

But I think since paypal itself asks for the reason code.. i think that information will be passed to the bank by paypal.

    My bank is HDFC.

I don't think that bank would keep calling everyone.. How many calls a day they can make? Just imagine thousands of Indians are withdrawing money everyday.. They won't be interested to pay more bills for TeleCom people..

But remember thousands of branches are there, all paypal users not from a Particular branch too. Anyway, may be they call randomly. But I guess HDFC will be in No.1 for calling :D

    Its highly unlikely!
i usually have my phone in silent mode. usually i sleep during daytime and dont know if i would attend their call. Anyways, if they send me a letter asking for official source of funds response, i will respond in writiing.

I dont think everyone of us will be getting calls from our Bank. Going thru the RBI doc posted by other member here in DP (regarding that Balance of Payment statistics) it requires documents by bank for amount over 5 lakhs INR. For amount less than 5 lacs Banks will have to do sampling (random verification).

I do not Understand why so many people are afraid of Bank calling you about Funds Coming.
Its in your own interest that Bank enquire you about large incoming Funds to your account. So what to worry? just ask them what they need to know and provide the same to them.
You are Not doing a Crime so what to worry for.

I have never ever got a call from my bank, (by the way it is SBI) regarding Paypal payments. Paypal converts the money into INR before sending, so I guess we shouldn't have any problem with the purpose code too, as long as the amount is not too large.

Yes for wire transfer HDFC has started calling since last 3 months(As I said earlier). Purpose is just to verify we are receiving money from legal person and legal reason.
